Carolina's is good but Rito's is better. It's a house at 14th st. and Garfield. If you didn't know it was there, you'd never find it except for the line out the door at lunchtime. They have the best green chili burrito, enchilada style, and refried beans that I have ever had! Try it, you won't be sorry. Mon. thru Fri. 10-4. Yummmmmmay!!!!!!!!

I don´t usually eat flour tortillas , But I can say the best corn tortillas I have ever had are from the taco stand vaca chenta which is right across from the laguna shores offices on Juarez. They will sell their tortillas to you freshly made right in front of you. They are the best corn tortillas in town.

Hey Dwig,
Sr. Cornejos (RIP) children reopened his bakery in a new location. I can't tell you how to get there but I can find it. I'll write the directions down next trip and give them to you. The kids are as good of bakers as Sr. Cornejo! Yummy warm crusty bolillos!
We are finally going down after a two year absence. Is this place still open? Can I get directions? Is there a better bakery where I can get those white mexican wedding cookies. My grandkids love them. Thanks!

Getting back to the question of the thread.
The tortilla place north of Super Ley on the west side of the road almost to the light, Tortillas Harina (flour) charges anywhere from $2-3 a dozen, depending on the mood of the lady selling them. They are awesome.
I have seen them using a piece of 3/4" PVC piping to roll them out. They are really fast. In the morning I have stood in line with many locals waiting for my batch.

In many of the small stores they sell Daniela brand (flour) which are pretty good for commercial hand made, a package of 10, $1.25-1.50 for the 10" ones. They have them in different sizes from 6" taco to 14" big burrito sizes.
The also freeze for many months just heat them in a pan and they are 90% of original taste.

Somebody talked about a tortilla store north of Hielo Reyna- can anyone tell me where it was or the description of the house? Also, does anyone know someone who makes bolillos (Mexican rolls). In Kino, we used to go to a house where in the backyard, next to the chicken pen, he had a big brick oven making rolls, and he would pull them out with a large wooden oar. I would think there's someone in Penasco making home-made rolls like that.

I've been thinking of making a outdoor oven (pizza/bread) in the common area at Santo Tomas. All kinds of good designs from around the world on the net. This ebay item gives good info http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wood-Fired-Clay-Brick-Outdoor-Garden-Pizza-Oven-36-x36-/120802937729?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c206a8b81#ht_2234wt_1139

There is a big bakery with wood fired ovens over by the ISSST store... it's operated by several guys, and the locals just line up for the fresh baked goods, they are yummy... I'll get better directions and post them later...

Hey Miramar. It's called Carmelita's and there is a little hand painted sign on the fence. It's on the right a little ways before you pass the water store going north on Sinaloa past Fremont. The house is set back from the street. I've been buying tortillas there for over 20 years. Go early as she is usually out of tortillas in the afternoon. They are still warm when you get them and, as I said in a previous post, the piglet that i am, I took butter with me and stood in their yard, eating them.....LOL!

Thanks Seadweller and Ladyjeeper! The bolillo brick oven is exactly what I'm looking for- you can't duplicate that taste in a regular oven. And I'll try Camelitas for tortillas- and I'll bring my Mexican butter as well.
