My Mirador to Sandy Beach Video!

Jerry, I'd offer to meet you over on Rants and Raves and settle this like real internet tough guys, but this kind of argument got boring for me a long time ago. But I do have to ask you a question about your avatar. With apologies to Crocodile Dundee, do you call that thing in your avatar a...

My Mirador to Sandy Beach Video!

Jerry, just as I was starting to think you might not be a complete fool, you again come out with something totally wrong, off the subject and unnecesary unless you just couldn't stand that peace seemed to finding a chance in this thread after the rocky start on the first page.

    Inshore Report 6/13 - 6/20

Reckon those seaquilizers will start flying off the shelves once the panga fishermen hear about them?

    sonoyta safety warning...

I got the same impression and wondered why I hadn't heard of Guzman escaping, but then I read it again carefully and saw the writer actually meant this El Memos character escaped from prison. "El Memos came to power with help from Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, the head of the Sinaloa Cartel who...

    Swimming in Rocky Point

Sharks are a non-issue around Rocky Point. Sting rays, on the other hand, are not. There are also jelly fish, though I don't believe the blue or white ones in the SOC are among the worst. People do quite a bit of swimming off Rocky Point's beaches, and the only real problems I've heard about...

Mexico Joe, I know Lobos in in Sonora, but sometimes people go all the way across to Angel Island.

    Lobos fishing 3-4-15

OK, I stand corrected. Could have sworn I'd read they were absent from the mainland side, but both my official sources - Mexfish.com and Gulf of California Fishwatcher's Guide - say they're present throughout most of the gulf. Must have looked up the wrong fish a while back.

    Lobos fishing 3-4-15

If you caught goldspots, I'm assuming you were fishing the Baja side. It's my understanding there are no goldspots on mainland side of the SOC.

Skip Sonoyta speed trap..use New Nogales Crossing

What's the word nowadays on taking Highway 43 out of Altar through Tubatama, Saric, etc.? I know it adds scenery, has picturesque churches, cuts out the tolls and reduces mileage, but last I heard it wasn't smart even in the daytime. Anybody doing it?

    Fishing report Feb 7th.

Those are some nice fish. Question: How deep do you need to get for white sea bass? Are they shallower in winter?

New Mexico hunters and trappers killing every bear and lion they can

Geez, is this thread back again? After the first go round, I lost all respect for several individuals I'd previously thought might actually know something.

    Fish identification

Same lure that caught the other fish. We were fishing for sardinero (leopard grouper). I did not know gulf groupers would hit lures near the surface. I had thought gulf groupers were bottom fish to be fished for with bait.

    Fish identification

WOW! Somebody has a keyboard! Here's what I think I know. Sardinero is what locals in Puerto Lobos call leopard grouper. The fish in the first picture is one of those. It's the second picture that has me stumped. When it was caught, I quickly pronounced it a "leopard grouper" because of...

    Fish identification

Just when I think I've got these SOC fish and their multiple names figured out, something happens to make me doubt myself. Is this a sardinero? Is this a leopard grouper? Or are leopard groupers and sardineros one and the same? And if so, which is which, and what's the other one...

    tips for a first timer?

How ever you choose to buy your Mexican auto insurance, on line or whatever, make sure you have before you cross the border of Lukeville. It would not be a good idea to drive uninsured (which is how Mexico sees it) from Lukeville to Rocky Point intending to buy it when you get there. Also...

Fish Story for May 25th - Lobos

I'd recommend Lukeville to Penasco to Lobos. Since Phoenix is west of Nogales, that should save you miles as well as about $18 in tolls. Go into Penasco to fill your gas tank, then get back on the highway to Caborca but don't miss the turn-off to Desemboque/Lobos. You will encounter some...
