I can't remember if there's a general rule of thumb on how long they usually wash up on the beach. Isn't two weeks straight about the longest each "wave" can last? Or is that about as useless as trying to predict the weather?

Here's a more recent thread from TripAdvisor discussing the same thing this month. They mention the exclusion for all-inclusive resorts and also tourist-only areas, the latter of which I guess Sandy Beach would qualify. Doubt Penasco del Sol could squeeze into that area, though. Oh, right...
