We saw hundreds of those last May. We even captured one and let the kids poke it with a stick. They all had a few tiny symbiotic fish that follow them wherever they go.

There's a battery pack you can buy at any Radio Shack. It's just a plastic thing that holds 8 AA's in series to produce 12V power for the fish finder. We'll be down in May. It'd be great to hook up with a fellow kayak fisherman.

I have the 170 with no GPS. It's great. Runs forever on 8 AA batteries. If I wanted a GPS I guess I'd bring my phone. It would be nice if you found a honey hole.

Heck, why not just tie a rope to the yak and drag it down with your ATV. Sand won't hurt it. I made the PVC cart. My suggestion is use the widest wheels you can find (for the sand) and go for thicker walled PVC at least 1-1/4" outside diameter. Otherwise it's too flimsy.

I've caught nice corvina right off the beach in Encanto. Usually evenings seem good. But the estuary mouth is a better bet - especially if the tide is high morning or evening.

There are two active threads regarding surf fishing below. Search this site for Morua or La Pinta. Or Pelican Point - all good places to fish from shore.

Nice photos. I've sat in that exact spot in the kayak and caught fish after fish. Of course, sometimes I've been there and caught not much, but it's usually killer.

Just want to make sure, if you just follow the signs to the Mayan, you will end up at the Mayan and they won't let you fish there. You need to keep going on the paved road past the Mayan and all the way past the 2nd estuary. Then there's a fairly major dirt road on the right with an old building...
