I have seen many sea horses in the sea of Cortez while scuba diving. The habitat absolutely does exist in the northern Sea of Cortez. They are very difficult to find while diving. They blend in perftlyvwith the macro algae that they live amongst.

Gold spotted sand bass are in the same genus as Spotted Bay Bass, Calico Bass, Barred Sand Bass, Parrot Bass....basically members of the grouper family. http://www.mexican-fish.com/goldspotted-sand-bass/

We might have to go that. We go to San Carlos every year. Headed to Bonaire next month. Went diving in Oregon earlier this month and we were in Cozumel last month. My wife and I are running a trip with approx. 50 divers to Bonaire next July and hopefully doing a trip to Cabo Pulmo next October.

It's actually not a male rainbow wrasse but it is a wrasse. That's called a Spinster Wrasse. Very common in the northern sea of cortez. http://www.iucnredlist.org/details/184035/0

Just a reminder that spear fishing on scuba is illegal in Mexican waters if someone actually had any ideas of such.

Those sharks actually look like Blacktip Sharks although a little blurry on my screen. Pretty common in the area. Definitely NOT Threshers.

Use a loop to loop connection for your leaders. 200# hollow spectra to 100-130# flouro or mono. Use a short 20-30# sacrificial piece for your weight or even use a rubberband. I use rubber bands to attach my weights when I fish for giant tuna off clarion and hurricane bank. Works like a charm!

That "Pargo" is really a Porgy. Totally different family. Pargo are Snappers, the Porgy is actually closer in relation to groupers/sea bass however they aren't one.

In Mexican waters you can not spear fish on scuba gear. Must be free diving.
