Tragic story. It seems like this situation has happened too often in Rocky Point over the years. The extreme receding tides and south blowing wind conditions at certain times of the day and year can create really dangerous conditions for swimmers and kayaks that are unique to the area...

For what it's worth, I've been drinking the Puerto Penasco city water (run through a reverse osmosis filter system) for the last 20 years without any problems.

Unleaded (Magna) at Pemex in Sonoyta was 18.49 pesos/liter and 22.87 pesos/liter in Puerto Penasco today.

Does anyone know what the big catch is for all the panga fisherman? I've never seen so many pangas clustered together in all the years in Rocky Point. We counted just under 200 pangas out on the horizon on Tuesday. I couldn't believe my eyes at first when looking through the binoculars...

One thought - Could Sonoyta make it illegal to cut the line and have the Sonoyta municipal police enforce it with the diligence they show with speeders? It could be a new revenue generator for them that most tourists would actually appreciate and support.

We block off the calendar as "no go" weeks for the RP Rally bike week based on past years' experience. It's a different spin on spring break or semana santa - great for the local economy but not the most relaxing week to enjoy Penasco it that's what you're after.

I really like June in Puerto Penasco. It's still reasonably dry compared to later summer and the ocean temps are perfect for swimming. Don't forget to check your car battery too...the hot temps are battery killers.
