People need to weigh the economic damage vs the death's of 267K people in the World. (It's still rising 10 weeks into it)
The repercussions from both of these are Bad, you just have to pick the one you can live with.
Your choice maybe different than mine or others.
Those in charge already have, the economy is more important so some/many peoples deaths are the price to pay.
If the CV goes diminishes and comes back again this fall/winter add in the damage from round 2 or 3?
Who knows, Just an educated guess right now.
You are exactly right. The economic & lifestyle damage versus deaths. Do we stay inside until we starve? Until our homes, jobs and lives are in shambles? If we stay at home then for how long? What if it takes 12 months? What if it takes two years? Having bureaucrats make arbitrary decisions and threaten imprisonment is extremely Nazi-esque.

COVID-19 Cases Increase Among Sonoran Health Care, Public Safety Workers
Sonoran health officials confirmed Monday that an additional 15 medical workers had tested positive for the coronavirus. In total,124 of Sonora’s 364 confirmed cases of Covid-19 are health care workers — about 34%.
"Even workers who are not in direct contact with patients are being infected because there aren't adequate protocols," said Sonora Health Department spokesman Gerardo Alvarez said during a press conference Monday.
So far, 45 doctors, 49 nurses, 3 lab technicians, a dentist and 26 health sector employees without direct patient contact have tested positive for the coronavirus in Sonora he said.
Public security personnel who interact frequently with citizens are also seeing high numbers of infections.
“Three coronavirus outbreaks have been identified among public security and military members in Sonora, where some of their close family members have also been infected," Sonora Health Secretary Enrique Clausen said.
More than two dozen confirmed coronavirus cases among police and military in Sonora, and many more have been quarantined to prevent the continued spread of the virus. And health officials are also investigating another possible outbreak at a military checkpoint in Querobabi, on Mexico's Highway 15 between Nogales and Hermosillo, Alvarez said.

Things are far worse in Penasco that I ever imagined. The reality is worse than RP's summary above. enforcement and medical and enforcement people are being decimated due to lack of protection.
Out of the recently reported pair from San Luis workin at the PARKING LOT of a grocery store, touching peoples purchases. One was released by demand of a high city official, but he had tested positive. He is out in town somewhere. the Doc that tested him is livid. This virus is virulent. He could infect thousands in a few days. The people are still working the parking lots at sams, BOdega, Ley , sans protection. I just passed the main Bomberos station, with 10 sitting in the street in a tight group no personal protection at all . talking . Word is still out that Mother's day will open for one day.
As suspected by some, the low hit rate in Penasco has been due to shipping suspected carriers and infected folk to Hermosillo, but Hermosillo is NOW Full and refusing transfers. Truthfully if I could I would get out of Penasco NOW.
I actually did find several hundred masks available but will not reveal where. I bought as many as I could and will buy more tomorrow for the front line Mexican workers. They are protecting our lives and deserve better.
Good luck and hope you all stay healthy. I will make one food run in the AM then I am not leaving the property.
Yeah, yeah , chicken little chiclen little.
here's another explanation why it's been refuted and removed from most sites as total garbage BS - these are anti-vaxxers, or course. Not even good enough for OANN.
Heard through the grapevine that they are reopening the town for those inside by May 16th,(but the sanitary filter will be there for 4 months or more) if not a Lawyer is arranging a protest with the people of Penasco. Don't hold me to this as it may be just gossip. At least it is something to look forward to. We are all tired of being confined. This is not written in stone and I do not have a link where this came from and will not disclose my source.
A local buddy said May 15 - June 1st will be when officials are going to announce their plans for opening. He also said May 15th locals will see some things re-opening as RP Life said. Still just speculation at this point.

For someone who claims to be scared to death of the Chinese virus, you sure do get around. Maybe stay home and quarantine yourself if you are so frightened Chicken Little.
Looks like May 17th unless we are totally infected....Our total was still at 1 right...So what excuse will they give if we can not reopen???
This was in the last hour translated from Periódico De Frente
On Thursday, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that according to the projections of experts and mathematicians on 17 May, economic and school activity, stopped by the pandemic, could be opened in municipalities where there are no contagions and do not have neighborhoods with municipalities with people sick with Covid-19 coronavirus.
"We are thinking that it can start on the 17th, but in municipalities where there are no cases and where they do not have neighborhood with municipalities that have people affected. That is, municipalities that in all their adjoining areas have no problem, there are a considerable number of municipalities and regions like this," he said

Dude, jesus christ! Shut your fucking mouth! You have nothing to say. EVER!
The government will always intervene in ANY public health crisis. Tell me when you last saw a cigarette commercial on TV? Is the Tobacco Tax against your constitutional rights as well? Trolls... There is an conversation to be had about financial stability and when and how we re-open but ignoring facts and public health experts is juvenile. Testing and contact tracing is still the best hope! This isn't rocket science. You identify and then quarantine. It's worked wonders for a vast majority of infectious disease. It's basically the HALF BACK DRAW of infectious disease.
Man, it's been months since I heard IGGY, STEVE or QUEEN say anything about HYDROXYCLORIQUIN...
Also, just read through the last 5 pages and I haven't seen one comment about how the COVID has already mutated once, multiple confirmed strains now. I just don't see how you re-open anything with any kind of certainty without testing and contact tracing.
Notice how the right has moved past their argument this is just the flu? Flu kills 60,000 in an entire flu season of 6-8 months whereas this has killed 80k now in 2 months. I'd say at this rate and the fact that we're re-opening it's going to rise past 150k.
I wonder how many ASU/UofA kids brought down their friend COVY during Spring Break?

Idk but I heard the same for the people already living here. I also heard they will NOT open for nonresidents until after the Memorial day holiday. The last thing they need is a bunch of holiday people piling in from merica spreading the disease so
Man, it's been months since I heard........................
Well Joe, I've inserted a few info-bits over the last few weeks about my own experience with tropical malaria and the mid-east desert sand fly fever.
Since I was eighteen years old to current time I have spent my entire life in the tropics (aka JJ) and the deserts around the world.
I have been infected with malaria for many years and most certainly remember how I dealt with it. In the good old days upon arrival at some steaming wet tropical shit-hole the all knowing el jefes forced us to partake in the big flat white tabs called chloroquine (CG) in order to PROTECT you, not CURE you from the malaria blood parasite that I still suspect is not CURABLE since the little beggars live inside your blood cells and in order to kill the little beggars in your blood cells the blood cells would have to be killed as well. Kill the host in order to kill the parasite?? Sounds like today's GOV.COM plans don't it?
So do a little research so I don't drag this on for ten pages. The malaria event or episode occurs when the infected blood cells packed with the new crop of thousands of baby parasites all burst at once thru your entire body. The new crop of little beggars now are on their own to seek out a new blood cell, penetrate it and start a new brood. When the cell bursts it is also full of the leftover crap from the feeding of the previous little beggars. That crap from thousands upon thousands of bursting blood cells are pure poison the the human body and the effect on the body is what is known as a malarial episode. Begins small but as the parasite numbers take over the system each episode is grander than the last to the point that the host might just die from it.
Many moons ago the Brits in Old British India found that the bark of the Quinona Tree had something in it that could control those episodes, thus forth the Gin and Tonic that is still popular. Again, do a little research so I don't drag this on for another ten pages.
So anyway, CG controls the poison from the bursting blood cells that cause fever, chills, sweating, weakness headache and lower back pain, all the symptoms of the filthy bio-weapon the ass hole chinks have attacked us with.
In later years whilst in the desert shit-holes of Iran, Iraq and various South American god-awful dumps the CG was replaced with a modernized control known as Primaquine (PQ). I've taken it for years to control the same effects that Sand Fly Fever has an the human body. PQ is also available at many Mexican farmacias, even RP.
So sweet dreams amigo. Death is certainly at your door tonight..............................

Those numbers of cov. deaths is very questionable , 75 year old with diabetes and heart issues that dies with symptoms and some guy that is attached by a shark should not counted as cov. death . Any time the left can take advantage to pump up the numbers for this virus they will . I fear out congress way more than I fear this virus . I have and will not wear those useless maskes . Your now seeing the American people starting push back against this stupid closing this country .

All right Stevie! Good job BIG M, you fit in quite a bit in what's probably the most letters you've put together since you dropped in on us. So if you have time, you know, when your not out there "pushing back", could you please just answer one question? What kind of sick shit mind would ever envision doctors from across our nation having that mindset while tagging toes?
What we have been waiting for or maybe not... (from the government facebook page)
Don't miss the announcement Mayor Kiko Munro will make of the plan to reactivate the city's economy and return to the new normal. What we've been waiting for weeks begins tomorrow. We'll wait for you.
I am working every day on large projects 50 plus people, we had a plumber come down with it but his brother that drives to work with him and works along side of him every day does not have it. Have a nephew that works along side a lady in there office that come down with it and he got tested and showed positive but has no symptoms. As they say if you had the flu shot you will show positive and he did have the flu shot.
Why is there so far no baseball season, no NBA, no gyms open, no churches open, no schools and universities open? This is a worldwide pandemic, not just Arizona or Mexico. Your fear of this virus shows. You do not want to believe this nightmare. Pray and stay well.
ron,
I can't change your mind, you can live in whatever world you care to, but its not the real world I live in.
good luck with those asymptomatic people you work with, i'm guessing you don't wear a mask or keep any silly social distance either.

Fake news, there is not 80,000. If someone dies from a heart attack there calling it a covid death.
It's probably much higher because many who died at home, in nursing homes and other places weren't counted because
in March and early April having enough CV tests we're only a figment of somebody's mind.
U. S. Confirmed cases 1.3 million , deaths 79,500 all this out of 330 million people . Mind boggling what the economic impact this shut down will cost to small businesses .
So I have an interesting question to make people think about something else. In 1968 Woodstock happened( 500,000 people) , sports occurred and life was normal for that period. Does any one remember the pandemic of 1968 with H3N2 that killed over 100,000 people for the year it was around. Any one I have asked had no idea of this. I may have been young but I don't remember grade school closing, vacations cancelled and life stopping panic and fear from my parents. Just throwing it out there for discussion.

Exactly , this all media driven for one purpose ,,, to keep from keeping American great if you catch my drift . wake up people
Oh NO, the oracle of common senses goes off the rails into the woods. Steve, use your brain if it still works. Have you sat in on one of there secret meetings?? Where would you find all these people willing to engineer this thing ??? Drift away but come on now, your brought him up, he has done enough without encouragement. to make a fool out of himself and to make the US look like a 3rd world political operation. Are you preparing to sacrifice your women ??

Yea and Viagra is great for your dick, what's your point?! We're talking about a different diagnosis than malaria.
fatboyharley - just to clarify,
in 1968 the Hong Kong Flu (H3N2) outbreak resulted in nearly 34,000 deaths in the United States in 1968. the 3 year total was about 100,000.
besides, it's not relevant 50 years later.

I don't speak for anyone else. but me and my husband and our girlfriend have no plans to venture out of our Penasco home until someone educated like Roberto tells us it's safe.

Joan C do not assume everyone is not educated on this forum. I am truly sorry you feel my doctoral education does not meet your criteria.
My recollection of 1968 was that America was terribly afraid, with the assassinations of Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King, the Vietnam War, economic problems, and civil unrest. From that pervasive stew of fear we elected Richard Nixon President. 1968 was not a good time.
Phase 3 Estimated mid-June (If criteria from Phase II are met)
General reopening of additional local businesses, under strict health criteria to be determined as appropriate.
Proposal for entry of visitors into Puerto Peñasco in Phase III
Installation of thermal cameras and video cameras at north health filter into city (road block)
Each person wishing to enter the city will be asked to go through the thermal screening
If the camera detects an anomaly (raised body temperature), a second review will be done via a rapid test for coronavirus, isolating the person from their companions as necessary.
If the rapid test is positive, the person will be asked to return to their point of original and given recommendations to prevent contagion with anyone else on their way to a health center.
Full reopening of economic activities: Phase 3 will remain in effect until there are no new outbreaks.

Yes dirt, you miss the checkpoint. If you want to get to Encanto or town, there's a checkpoint right after you make the turn to go to Penasco going west.

You are waiting for an anonymous extremely partisan stranger on the internet to give you the signal it's safe? My advice, stay under your bed until a vaccine is created. Shouldn't be more than a year or two. Roberto's opinion is just like an asshole, everybody has one and they all stink.

How many cases have there been in Penasco? I think I read there have been 2 but just checking. I don't believe Americans are going to rush to Mexico after this complete shutdown and might think about whether to invest here after being locked out of their properties.
Audsley, last week my husband couldn't get into town with a face mask, permanent resident card and utility bill. Also, be careful about asking on this forum about how to get into the safe zone (even though there are a lot of workers going in and out from Sonoyta and other places). You'll be accused of being irresponsible: "Hope you enjoy your stay but do not infect your neighbors.check the definition of irresponsible."

Thanks for sharing your husband's experience.
My immediate desire is to accompany a friend across the border during Phase 2 (June 1 or soon after) and then down to Puerto Lobos to check on his house. This normally involves a short side trip into Rocky Point to top off the gas tank at the first Circle K. We can probably find some other way to get gas without having to enter the safe zone. Our main challenge is getting across the border and getting through whatever roadblocks and check points we might run into on the highway going past RP, Santo Tomas and Desemboque.
Just go straight thru Sonyta south directly to Caborca. From Caborca west is a short drive to the Coastal Highway then south again only twenty five miles or so to Puerto Lobos. No need to go thru PP.
Is your friend interested in renting his house? I've been leaving my boat on and off down there since last summer and would like someplace to sleep and rent other than the green fishing barracks that Sr. Crab has to offer.
Sorry, you can call me here in Yuma at 800-494-5597 if he might be interested. I want to leave a Jeep down there as well.

When you go over bridge and hit the sanitation stop you will be hit up by the Marines, they will be asking when you left town and do you have re-entry paperwork or going to funeral. You cannot get passed them but they will let you go by escort to first gas station and get gas but will not let you leave your vehicle, both cops and visitors have gone to jail for mordida trying to get in to this ghost town. I tried going to M/palace but it is blocked same as the entrance west back into town, saw many trucks going with furniture turned back, I wish they would tell you once you cross into Mexico Penasco is closed off, they patrol the area with drones too. I know someone says it's possible to get in but I wouldn't attempt it.
Should we be considering a welfare check on Dr Bob, or he just trying to psych us out by not sharing his medical expertise ? Does anyone know if he is younger, or older, in good health, or not ? We sure don't want to lose him on this forum !
Playaperro, I gave your post a like just to say thanks, but it wasn't what I wanted to hear.
Most of the people on this forum seem mainly concerned with getting in and out of Rocky Point. I'm mainly concerned with getting in and out of Mexico. RP is important, but it's a moot point if you can't even get into the country.
I'm resigned to waiting until the closure agreement among the US, Canada and Mexico expires and isn't renewed. Initially the temporary border closure was for 30 days beginning March 20. Then on April 19 they announced it was being extended another 30 days. (Nice of them to give everyone plenty of advance notice.) I'm expecting that around Tuesday May 19 they'll announce another 30-day extension taking us to June 20.
The best medicine for self-pity attacks, which I'll admit I've been having, is looking at how this virus has affected some other people. Then boredom and restlessness doesn't look so bad.
Caborca is not "locked down". Puerto Lobos does not have a power hungry mayor, in fact no one at all to enforce the "I am in command" thug mentality.
The "police station" there in Lobos is a ten by ten foot building with no service that has most likely never been occupied.
Also, keep in mind that there is no fuel available SW of Caborca on Hwy 44 after the Pee-Mix station at Y La Griega junction. The next fuel might be had at the tiny Pee-Mix station at Puerto Libertad thirty five miles further south of Puerto Lobos.
Dr. Bob is probably doing just fine this afternoon chowing down on some F-Fine F-Frog takeout and avoiding the endless negativity spewed by the happy members of this informative forum.

Actually Joan, we wouldn't want to lose him on this forum. Bob has provided YEARS, DECADES of good ACTIONABLE intelligence for many topics of concern. I won't speak for Bob but I would rather have 100 of him than one of you. You're a Rocky Point cheerleader right? I see your face on many billboards in town... Kind of a hoity toity type? Scarf wearing, sipping hot totties on a cold January day at Manny's?
Big shoot out at y greca they taking your Jeep Fords and Rams. Don't head out that way.
Translated roughly from De Frente:
ARMED FACE BETWEEN STATE POLICE AND MALANDROS IN THE REGION OF THE AND GREEGA
With high-power bursts, armed civilians tried to tear down the State Police helicopter on a day of armed crash that has developed for several hours this Sunday.
Elements of the State Police have besieged a town in the area of Caborca, called San Felipe, located in the agricultural area of the municipality, 10 kilometers from the Y, heading to Puerto Peñasco, as part of the confrontation they hold against the criminal group I love you so much
So far, State Police have arrested several people, secured thick-caliber firearms and several vehicles, one of them armored.

I didn't misread anything. Maybe I misinterpreted your sarcasm for actual concern of Bob's well being. I can read Joan. Thank you. To me, your writing came off as sarcastic. Along with other comments directed toward Bob and using inference I determined that you were being sarcastic. To which I replied that no, we wouldn't want to lose Bob on this forum.
If you get called out just own it. Don't bullshit me further. Please Joan, tell me more about myself. You have my attention now.
? You may have misread what I said. If not, we need a welfare check on you as well !
I know other people who thought you were just being cute, in a shitty way, and some just don't know for sure. So either way, you could have said you were sincere, but you didn't. You just changed the subject.
The bickering has ruined this forum. those of you that mention "missing" the input of certain forum members then continue the nonsense are culpable. Please! I don't give a rat's ass if you like Trump or Obama or Jerry fucking Garcia, Take the nastiness to the basement where it belongs. You know who you all are. Inmates are running the asylum here. Git down there and slug it out, we are better than this, and the rest of us don't have to read the mind vomit being spewed here .Gracias

The bickering and name calling is on many sites, even on the Penasco FB sites, moderators stay on top of it there, probably too well.
With the Political Circus we have going on in this country, with Dem's are stupid, Rep's are stupid being broadsided from each party
it's going to be awhile before it goes away, maybe never. Suggestion is for people to seek out other news sources other than CNN, Fox,
OOAN etc. Some of the Euro sites are more toned down to the rhetoric going on with the US sites. Just a different flavor.
Maybe just do like Roberto and turn it off.
I visit BBC because of the extreme political bias on US news. So sick of it I could shit. Anyone got a site with a balanced non partisan look at the world?

ok, but dammit - leave Jerry fuckin Garcia out of this, he's gone - for 25 years :(
Big shoot out at y greca they taking your Jeep Fords and Rams. Don't head out that way.
I remember some years ago when Y Greca was shot all to hell and the pictures showed bullet holes, big ones, in the cop shop that went from top to bottom of the exterior. Two weeks or so after it was shot up, Don and I went by to have a look-see and it was perfect with all new paint. I later heard, but it was never confirmed that the captain in this picture with me lost his life in that deal.
We didn't have any trouble last Friday getting into Mexico. We're going tomorrow and if there's a problem I'll post here. Just remember the border closes at 8. I know it was posted here previously, but we forgot and spent a lovely night at a motel in Ajo!
Miramar, I'm assuming your permanent Mexican residency card puts you in a different position from sport fishermen and other tourists. I'll be curious if you're asked to show your residency card immediately when you cross the border. Would be grateful for a report on what experiences you have and at what points along the way you have them.
From the Washington Post today: Essential cross-border workers like healthcare professionals, airline crews and truck drivers are still permitted to cross. Truck drivers are critical as they move food and medical goods in both directions. Much of Canada’s food supply comes from or via the U.S.
Americans who are returning to America and Canadians who are returning to Canada are also exempted from the border closure.
I believe the rest of us are shut out of the country at least until June 20. If so, I would expect someone like myself, who does not meet the above criteria or own property in Mexico, to be turned around immediately by the first officials I meet after getting the green light at the border. Apparently that's not the case. What kind of border closure is that?
Advice from a contact in Puerto Lobos: Drive from Sonoyta through Caborca and expect to be looked at hard at a major check point along the way. Don't have anything in your vehicle (fishing rods, etc.) suggesting you've come down to have fun.

While spewing mind vomit... 2 wrongs don't make a... uh screw it.
Only if you are trying to get back into Mexico. No problem getting into the states.
Just read a HIGH ranking CHOLLA BAY resident say that American visitors will now have to wait until June 22... at minimum. Only domestic outside tourism will resume June 16.

Hey Kenny, you see another huge gunfight near Y GRIEGA like 4 days ago?! Still to this day, the two most nervous times I've ever had in Mexico stem from Y GRIEGA. The first, the time I went with you to Lobos. Going to get gas in Y GRIEGA and I felt the most unwanted weight on myself. The stares and just overall, I can't explain. I read body language VERY well. I never felt more uneasy in Mexico in my years. Kenny kept telling me nothing to see here and maybe that was true but it was a heavy blanket and I could feel the uneasiness. Second time, more than 3 years later I had to go into Y GRIEGA again by myself for gas after leaving Jerry's heading to Lobos. I pleaded with Jerry lol please JERRY!!! Don't make me go alone. That place is scary. Jerry says, you're fine. Second time I was pry more nervous after my first experience and being alone added to that. Got gas and drove to LOBOS listening to MANA on a Mexican highway in the middle of the desert in narcoland by myself... kind of surreal. Pry shouldn't have smoked so much weed before I left. Think that was the trip I met Leigh... Good times! Need to get back to LOBOS but Y GRIEGA scares the shit out of me... I have seen two incidents near there in the last few months surfing BLOGDELNARCO....
