"... the point is, that once a drug enters a large enough population there will be a number of sensitive individuals and someone will die. It doesn't mean that the drug is dangerous, it means that it's unrealistic to set a standard where if anything bad happens to anyone we have to decide that the drug is dangerous and should be banned."

Go to page 12 and read how it was only for permanent residents not home owners.

My HOA in my neighborhood took care of everything for non permanent residents that are homeowners. They took a photo ID, CFE bill to the municipality and got the car stickers for all home owners that wanted one.

Nice how they get passed sanitary blockade?

Which HOA did that? There are many people in LC, Cholla in the same boat. Non permanent residents that are homeowners can't get in.
I would love to get to my place in Cholla, so far only way to do that is put my place into a rental group
have it sanitized and pay $120 to stay there (4 nights) for sanitizing, taxes, fees to the city and rental management to process the paperwork.
Seahorse
Contact your HOA in Cholla and have them send your reservation of your address to the barricade/check point. Although it has to be sanitized first. My current communication from my HOA is all homeowners “not in the rental pool” can come down, but within 24 hrs you have to have your home sanitized and the certificate turned into the municipality. My HOA will do the sanitizing with an authorized contractor or provide the names and phone numbers of the contractors....as well as which ones speak English. Price is by size of home. Mine was $500 Peso abt $25 US. And then I turned the certificate into the HOA and they take to the municipality. So my suggestion is to call your HOA as they have all the up to date info on protocol from the city. It changes daily, if not hourly.

Mayor removed our HOA guard house so we on his shit list, wonder what the Choya HOA did to deserve to be on his shit list to. There must be at least 900 homes in Choya maybe more, miss Oscar tearing it up at JJ's.

Cholla Bay has 850ish homes just over 525 belong to the HOA.
If you knew some of the Cholla HOA members then it wouldn't surprise you that the relationship with the city is anything but smooth.
Not quite tearing down the LC guard house bad though.
FYI we drove into LC the day the guard house was being dismantled without even knowing the city was doing that.
We thought, maybe building a new one, but then the posts started pouring in about it here.

Playa, not much has changed, it has some quacks and grouchy people, but also some nice people.
Gringo Loco he's still around and fighting with many. (he's pretty ill, the last I heard)

It's less of a fishing village now, lot's of arrogant $$ moved in and built some big homes blocking peoples views.
Cholla still has a drinking problem, JJ's has their morning, lunchtime and late afternoon regulars, a lot less these days
as drinking heavily as they do takes it's toll and usually doesn't end well.

Cholla Bay Oyster house opened 3 years ago, it's a really nice addition to Cholla and is some serious competition for JJ's,
it has A/C, pretty good, real food, has a nice vibe and just a nice place we go now when we're down
I don't know Bruce but he probably starts off from in front of my place on Pinto Pt.

Cholla Bay Oyster House is really good. I haven’t been there since the lockdown started, and then by June I’m reluctant to eat oysters until Fall. I’ve got a pretty good view of the place with my binoculars from across the way.

I'm pretty sure they won't re-open until the fall. They also have things not on the menu, just ask. I'm very happy they expanded
the menu and finished the upstairs sports bar and patio, great views.

No wonder I haven't seen the bat mobile driving around playing the theme song with LED lights flashing!

The original or kids of the originals (baby boomers) are starting to get old and unfortunately you can't get a shack for under 100k like you could back in the 70's so the fishing community is shrinking. The Cholla Bay Derby is one of the last great traditions still left but it seems like yearly entry continues to go down. The pictures on the walls of JJ's will tell a story about the glory days of Cholla Bay sport fishing. Nowadays it's more of a commercial/local hooka boat ramp than anything. Although the HOA was able to kick the jipsy panganeros out a few years ago when it got really bad. With the assistance from the marines.

Talk about arrogant money. Have you seen the new place at the statue? I like they want $800 - $1000 per night!!!!! Like 10 bedrooms or something ungodly. It has a pool, fountains. Looks like Laguna Beach until the tide goes out or it's a slack tide and that part of the bay doesn't see water for 2.5 days... kind of unrealistic.

From an outside view it does seem that Cholla Bay is an AA meeting for people that couldn't quit. Lot's of booze and they're retired so what else is there to do?! Lot of leather skin down there. Too much alcohol and cigarettes. People looking about 15 years their senior.

Cholla Bay Oyster House has been a great addition. We've had at least 5 or so meals there in the last 2 years and they've all been good. Nothing I would write home about but nothing underwhelmed me and their price point is ON POINT.

Some of the locals do a outbound tide float from radio shack to Tucson on pool noodles often.

Joe, since the OH hired the new chef last year the food has been good-pretty good IMHO.
One of the big reasons I like it is because they serve 10 different beers, including Corona products, Pacifico is my Favorite in Mexico.
Since OH opened and JJ's went to Heineken products (DosXX, Tecate etc.) 10 years ago, I don't go in JJ's very often.
All the bartenders there give me crap about it when they see me. I've known Cesar since he was 20.

I shouldn't have said it like that. Let me re-word. I have had absolutely zero complaints about their food. I think it is good food. I agree about their beer selection too because we like NEGRA MODELO which you can hardly find anywhere else in town. What I like the best is that two people can have a good meal and a couple of beers for like $25/30. Definitely not bar food and we prefer seafood so definitely happy this spot opened in CB.

That's Ok Joe, If I was single I'd bring my date there. I love the vibe and music filtering through the place.
I love the view upstairs and am glad they serve other cervezas besides the Heineken swill they serve in JJ's.
Agree the food is better than bar food and affordable for decent food.

Speaking of beers, and sounds like you may know the answer, what is the story of Pacifico and, as Joe said, Modelo products disappearing over the years from bars and restaurants ?

I cannot stand Sol or Dos Equis or Tecate and its such a bummer when literally every establishment is tied to those products.

Are there deeper pockets from those distributors for promotional purposes versus the corona/pacifico/victoria/bud distributors ?
ben21
Question regarding the spray tunnel... Are people still required to walk through it, or just the car? Would kids have to walk through it too?
joester
Groupo Modelo (Pacifico, Corona, Modelo) was fully bought by AB/INBev a few years ago. It's like the Coke/Pepsi thing, all about the deals. If you only carry one line, they get a better price. Higher-end bars/restaurants usually carry them both, but not always. We agree, Modelo Especial is our beer, has been since 2001. Used to be low-priced like tecate, but since they got bought out, advertised as high-end....... anytime under $1/per beer at stores, it's a fair price. I remember the $5.99 12 packs.........
brokenwave
rplarry, Here's my take.
The distributor's for DosXX, Tecate Etc. have made exclusive agreements with many of the bars and restaurants in Penasco to stock
and serve only their products.
I know when I spoke to one of the owners of JJ's Cantina about getting rid of Corona products he said
the agreement he made with the DosXX, Tecate distributor helped save JJ's after the 2008 recession and it would be really
really, hard to step away from the extra $$ it brings in.
He knows he lost some customers by not stocking Pacifico, Modelo and Corona. (Me 90% of the time I'm in Cholla).
When I do go to JJ's I make sure I wear a Corona or Pacifico shirt, if Joe's there I stop to say hello.
10-12 years ago you could get Pacifico/Corona etc. most everywhere except Manny's, The Pink Caddy and many of the bars
along the Mirador when it was popular. I suspect that's where the DosXX/Tecate made their 1st deals to take over Penasco.
I'm surprised that Budwiser in Mexico (AmBev) which has the rights to Corona/Modelo etc) hasn't flexed their financial arm
to do the same thing.
When we go out to eat and I'm going to have a Cerveza here are the places I know have or had Pacifico/Modelo/Corona products.

The Cholla Oyster House, Playa Bonita Restaurant (Puesta del Sol), The Point, Mary's and a couple of others at the fish market
Any updates to this are welcome.
It may have changed in the past few years since we're not eating out as much since my wife went to a low carb diet.

Thanks the the info, very interesting.

I totally get now that if the establishments benefit financially, they will stay connected where their bread is buttered.

What is puzzling to me is where is the competitive business sensibilities from Groupo-Modelo ?

Why haven’t they stepped up to the plate to regain some market share and by not doing so, thus allowing a virtual monopoly by their competition ?

Quaternary ammonium compounds, probably hundreds of different ones in industrial use, are not what I would pick for this (Ph.D. In chemistry and hundreds of publications here). Probably won’t do worse than give you skin irritation. Hold your breath going through and take a shower as soon as you get home. It’s a completely useless disinfectant if someone is infected and shedding virons.

I really wish someone, like the Mayor perhaps?, could provide a clear answer on why this is still being done. I seems to make no sense and it just makes a lot of people uncomfortable. So it's a money maker? We really want to come to our condo. My wife is a cancer patient and isn't very mobile so inhaling this crap just doesn't seem like a great idea unless they can convince me it's some good chemo.

I am very surprised that Budwiser-AmBev (Corona) hasn't gotten aggressive like Heineken (DosXX) did. But then we don't know about
the deals they offered, lending/payment options etc. Having less of a selection is easier to manage from a business point of view.

According to The Guardian from an article about Nogales spraying: "
The Mexican border city plans to install five sanitizing tunnels to disinfect people arriving through its two main ports of entry from Nogales, Arizona. A sanitizing tunnel is also stationed outside a hospital in Nogales, Sonora, where visitors must brush open or duck through clear plastic curtains to be washed with the disinfectant mist.

News reports identify the cleansing solution as biozinc. "

Since you're well connected down there, is there any way you could spread the word that this tunnel is going to scare away tourists as long as it's up? I totally understand locals wanting to protect themselves, so if they feel strongly about the tunnel, then I respect that. However it's possible they might not realize it's a big deal to prospective tourists. Especially those that are older or have small children.

The fact that it's apparently run by volunteers makes it even more dangerous. There's no way I could send my small children through a mystery tunnel composed of who knows what and no clue what the concentration level is.

We went through the spritzer this weekend. if still up, id have no problem taking my little grand boys through it in September.
We went to Mannys, Wrecked and Chef Mickeys on a short turn weekend. We followed all the rules each had in place out of respect for the servers and business owners. Had a fabulous time, and met a bunch of joyous (like us) visitors. If you dont like the rules, dont go. The locals wont miss you.

We're not going, I think I made that clear? I also said I respect their decision to have the tunnel. Not sure why you feel the need to speak for the locals either.

I'm simply saying that for a town that lives on tourism money, they might be interested in hearing what said tourists think about the tunnel. It's not my place to push for change in a foreign country, just simply offering feedback.

I'm glad you had a good trip, I hope we can visit soon.

The reason the tunnel scares people is that it's not rational. The virus doesnt live long on a surface like that. Who is going in your car ,house etc that would come in contact with the virus ? No one. It lives and spreads from your coughing , breathing ,sneezing. Thats what spreads it. Not my car seat, steering wheel or my kitchen sink.

Update on another death from here. He was transferred to Hermosillo last Monday and put on a vent.

Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Francisco Javier Carrillo Ruiz, Puerto Peñasco Director of Civil Protection and the Fire Department, who passed away this morning in Hermosillo - where he had been transferred last week. Originally from Guadalajara, Dr. Carrillo had an illustrious career in the medical field, and at one time also served as the Director of the local General Hospital.

As far as I know, nope. Have not seen or heard of the port being reopened yet for any charters or tourist activity. It was my understanding that only commercial fishermen were being allowed out.

Wouldn't mind social distancing myself at the 51 for awhile!

Not to mention the fact that the workers were all trained and supervised by an MD that died in Hermosillo yesterday from the virus.

Planning ahead for opening the beaches

García González detailed among steps to prepare for reopening area beaches is that of modifying cleaning protocols, as most of the waste collected could represent a high risk for the novel coronavirus. Steps also include training beach vendors as to how to deal with clients due to health protocols, limiting entrances to beaches, as well as possible use of a sanitizing tunnel, among other efforts.

So if they do implement the sanitizing tunnel to enter the beach and water what will the spray do to the sea life??? It is not one person, but thousands over time. Each time they leave the beach and reenter they would be sprayed again. Are they even thinking about long term effects for the people and environment???

Last week they announced a total of 17 infected not counting the 10 additional healthcare workers. They also added another hot spot on the interactive map across from Sam's Club.

I found this article interesting as to why thermal temperature scanners are not accurate.

My horrible grammar has done just fine. If you must know it helped me retire at the age of 50. With a very substantial net value. So any time you would like to compare apples let’s have a beer when covid clears, if you have the gonads to sit face to face. If anyone is a keyboard warrior I believe it would be you. Just let me know where I can send a picture so you can recognize me sitting at the bar waiting ever so patiently. Either agree to meet or just fuck off pest.

My question to the rest of the forum is “ does Queen of Kings have the balls“ simple yes or no will do

For us as a family the tunnel is sort of a factor for us because we don't know what could result in that years from now. But we have other motives on why we don't plan on coming back till next year; Penasco has very limited hospital beds, if you get infected there as an outsider you are out of luck, people in Mexico have not been taking social distancing seriously out in public whenever we have gone to Magdalena and Nogales, the police in Penasco arresting people for riding their bike or exercising outside, not being able to go into the ocean while there & the police in Sonoyta requiring a mask while driving through their town on the way to Penasco (money grab as always for Sonoyta).

I went to my primary care Dr. yesterday for a follow up visit from last Nov. and asked him how real the CV is.
He gave me a look that actually worried me a bit.

He said it isn't fake news, wear a mask, wash and wash again, rinse out your nose and mouth after being around strangers,
limit traveling and don't get into a plane this year.

Then he said it's that bad and the news is actually under playing it currently.
He's had 6 patients die from it, all were over 50 and knows it's going to get worse until places where people gather get
shut down and a treatment is approved.

I told him about what Penasco is doing and he said the US should have done something similar to that months ago especially
in the hot spots.

I’m in Southern California right now, and it‘s quite bad up here. My wife is going into LA for a Drs appointment at a major medical center. She’s scheduled to get an antibody test which we expect to be negative. I‘ll see what she learns visiting one of the largest medical centers in the state.

There's a couple of very good examples right here in our RPT community on how not to react to this virus in a responsible way. No matter what side of the border they are on they are a big problem, and they want in now.

The lockdown that began April 1 in Sinaloa is being lifted and tourists will once again be welcome in the state as of Wednesday.
Governor Quirino Ordaz Coppel, accompanied by Durango Governor José Rosas Aispuro at an event in Mazatlán, announced the opening of hotels, spas, beaches, golf courses, restaurants and other tourism businesses which will be permitted to operate at 40% of their capacity.

So who really has the last word on the beaches being open or closed? Mayor Kiko seemed to imply it was a federal decision, but it seems like it is really a state one?

It says beaches are open but no mention of not going in the ocean. Same advertising as here.

We'll see if it gets enacted. Defrente also posted that CV-19 cases in Penasco added 4 new cases and is now up to 21.
June 15th there were 14 cases in Penasco.

Ahh, your two-bit doctor told you.....He was right on one thing, if you are old or ill, STAY HOME. The rest of us have very little to worry about with the Chinese virus.
Given your obvious condition, you really need to be hiding under your bed. Poke your head out come Christmas and we will update you.
