I switched to Metro Pcs about six months ago. Unlimited talk, text & data for $45.00 including Mexico. 3Gig of 4G.
I have used it in San Carlos and RP and it worked great It was just like being in the states, except for the view.
In Mexico, it does switch over to Telcel mostly, but seems to pick up the best available signal because Movie Star came up once for
a brief period.
