Sorry it took a while to post this report.

Doug McLaughlin and I (Scott Pike) launched out of Safe Marina around 6:30 AM aboard the boat "Reel Hard" and were planing on heading out to the 51-mile reef to see if we could catch some more white sea bass. As soon as we rounded the corner out of the marina we had a change in plans. The seas were rising and the winds were beginning to blow, no way we wanted to travel 50 miles in that weather. So, we headed to the 12-mile reef instead and caught some bait to try fishing for grouper. After catching bait we headed to our favorite spot and began drifting, we drifted for an hour or so with no luck. Then we moved to another spot and achored for another hour or so, still no luck. After pulling the achor we drift one more time over the spot and hooked into a large fish, which broke us off in the rocks, finally our first bite. So we tried the same drift again and once again hooked into a large fish, unfortunately the same result...a broken leader. A few drifts later and once again we hooked a large fish and ended up with NOTHING. Finally a drift or two later we got hooked up for the fourth time, but this time the result we different...we landed a 70 pound grouper. So our day ended up 1 for 4, but the one fish was worth the disappointment of the other 3. We also caught a 7 pound pinto bass.
