How much duty-free can you import?

Came through with a Radiator and they sent me back to the pay duty line.
Said I paid 60 for it and the tall soldier charged me 20 dollars.
Another time came through with 500 worth of stuff and he charged me 20 percent of the 500.
Didn’t get any credit for what they let you bring in.
I get the radiator maybe car parts you pay. I kept quiet cause he was sending cars on trailers back to the USA.

I hate that they wing that shit and don't adhere to the rules. I am bringing a dishwasher and I would like my $300 exemption. Maybe if I declare it first? Did you get penalized for not declaring it first?

What the soldiers told me that the exemption is up to their discretion.
Like laptops and personal use stuff yeah you can cross that no issues but you bring a Tv in a box they will look the price up on Amazon and tax you that price if you have no receipt.
E they going to tax you on the dishwasher so have a receipt.
