May 1 Mexican National Holiday????

Sitting in what will be a 3 hour line at the border right now @ 4pm on a Monday... Just a random weekend.... Nope. I just looked, tomorrow is a national holiday, Labor Day... FML. The worst part is that there are a handful maybe a couple hand fulls of what I assume are CONNECTED men asking if you want escorted to the front for money so naturally if people at the end of the line keep cutting, the line doesn't move. I have steam coming out of my ears right now.

I don't know what the Americans are doing but we've gone from on the other side of the hill to almost the buen viaje sign in under an hour...

Sorry I never checked back in but apparently this thread wasn't going to break the internet. I had a long work week after we got home. All in all it ended up only being about an hour or an hour and ten minutes from the other side of the hill where the Y is. Initially when we stopped there I was thinking this is going to be 3 hours because I've been in that part of the line on busy American holiday weekends. The Sonoyta cops opened up the second lane like they usually do and it actually wasn't too bad. Kind of a buzz kill for a Monday afternoon. When we left RP I thought it was going to be the standard "pull right up to the window" and 340 minutes to Glendale and the 51 like clockwork. We noticed that it was ALL Mexican Americans. I mean 95% I bet. I'm still trying to figure out what holiday it was. The only one I saw online for Mexico was Labor Day, May 1 but that wouldn't make sense and if it was domestic travel the border wouldn't have been that backed up on a Monday. Unless school is out for some part of the valley and or Tucson it really didn't make sense and caught us completely off guard. Does anyone know if there was some kind of Mexican holiday last week? I saw something about childrens day??? Or something like that... I found a website while sitting in line that you can search every domestic mexican holiday or non official holiday by month and those were the only two that I saw for late April...

In other news, the wind sucked. Or blew. one of the two. Villa put the kibosh on fishing Sunday and Monday and told us the port is closed amigo...

Side note: What is this new trend or phenomenon called when you're driving with cruise control going 74 miles an hour and you catch the car in front of you from 2,337 yards away and then when you go to pass them they try and race you when you're out in the left lane trying to pass and then you have to go 85 to get around them, then for the next 48 seconds the person pretends like they want to go fast now and rides you until they lose their train of thought again and start day dreaming and return the throttle back down to 58 or whatever previous speed they were going and then you never see that person again for the rest of your life until the next asshole does the exact same thing in 6 miles... what am I missing????????? These people are essentially asleep at the wheel until they're THEIR getting passed and their THERE ego just can't take it or what is the deal? Please, can someone with a psychology background explain this to me???? It's killing me.

Slow down, obey the traffic laws and you will have less 'crooked' cops hassling you and less trouble with the 'other' asshole drivers. Let's be honest though, you won't because rules only apply to the other guy.....

Joe - Roger Clyne hosted a series of live shows in Rocky Point over last weekend. His followers usually bring a bunch of people into town over those weekends and could be part of the longer border waits. Plus, the weather is amazing right now and many people are feeling much more confident about traveling now that they're recently vaccinated. Just a guess. I had no border wait going into Mexico at Lukeville last Friday at 9:30am, but had friends who had a 30 minute wait to get in around noon. Seems like the norm now to expect a little wait to get into Mexico on Friday afternoons.

Well it doesn't take a shrink. There are two road games that some folks play. Some folks combine them, as well, and yet others are unaware they’re doing it:

1. There’s the “pass me if you can” game, where – as you mentioned – the act of passing seems to snap the driver out of oblivion and – either due to ego or due to newly-awakened state – they put pedal to metal while you’re passing.

2. There’s the “you’re the probe” game, where – upon being passed – the driver decides to latch on to your higher speed, using you as the “probe” who they imagine would be the one nabbed, should radar be out there. As you mentioned, sometimes they eventually drop off and revert to their slower speed.

I am in no way advocating speeding. Sometimes people don’t know or observe the speed limits, and are emboldened when someone passes at a higher speed. Just have noticed the patterns over the years.

This is a busy time of the year as the weather is almost perfect, but the wind still blows 20+ a few days a week in April and May.
I drove back to Phx on Thurs and was very surprised at the amount of traffic heading south. At noon there was a 1/4 line at the border
and close to a 1/4 mile line on the 86 at Why waiting to turn south coming from Tucson. I saw many, more than 100 trucks/SUV's hauling
their Can Am's and Razers south and there was the typical Friday afternoon Lukeville, with a 1-2, mile line waiting to cross into Mexico.
