I was wondering if there are any events planned for Independence weekend- 9/16-9/19th which are posted on a website. Although I was looking for activities w/ the locals, I came across this on Rosie's website and thought the group might be interested:

Friday, September 17th: 6pm - 10pm: Welcome Reception
Emiliano's Restaurant at the Sonoran Sun Resort will be hosting our welcome reception. Here you will sign in as a guest of the Fans of Rocky Point, receive your wristband for the weekend, purchase raffle tickets and T-Shirts. You will also receive a welcome bag full of "stuff" from our sponsors. If you RSVP online prior to this event - you will receive a FREE Fans of Rocky Point Lanyard at the welcome reception! After that you can relax and mingle with all of the fans, enjoy some great food and drinks all night long! Enjoy National Beer and Margarita's all night long for just $1!! Emiliano's offers authentic mexican dishes from Carne Asada, Tacos, Chili Relleno's to catch of the day and more.... You will also have an opportunity to meet with many of our sponsors throughout the evening, as many of them will be onsite with a booth and a representative from their business. For the Fans that do not stay onsite for the weekend, we will be giving you a day pass to give you access to the resort grounds to be a part of all of our activities all weekend long at the Sonoran Sun!

Friday, September 17th: 8pm - 10pm: Dive In MovieAfter you get registered at the Welcome Reception and get some dinner and drinks in the restaurant.... grab your swimsuit and head out to the pool for a Dive In Movie!

Saturday, September 18th: 9am - 4pm: Beach day
8am - Noon: Breakfast Buffet
Start your day off with a scrumptious breakfast buffet that will be set up just outside of the restaurant onsite. Full buffet is offered at $9.50/pp. Enjoy a day full of some FUN IN THE SUN! We will be located directly on the beach in front of the Sonoran Sun Resort. We will have many different Eco-friendly activities available such as: kayaking, snorkeling, and a trip to Bird Island available. You can also go jet skiing, parasailing, fishing. These activities will require you to PRE-REGISTER.
For those who just want to relax on the beach - you can pull up a chair under the palapa's, join in a game of volleyball or bocci ball on the beach. Or simply explore the soft sandy beach in search of seashells, various marine life near the shore and picturesque views of Sandy Beach! As the tide goes out, you can explore the tide pools - and Rocky Point has some of the best tide pooling in the world! You will find all kinds of exciting marine life in these tide pools. If you get hungry or thirsty during the day - you can enjoy nice cold drinks at the AQUA SWIM UP BAR in the pool along with poolside snacks. Happy Hour specials will be available from 4pm - 5pm We will also be grilling some food during the day, as well. Again, some of our sponsors will have representatives onsite, so you will be able to visit with them!

We will also be announcing the winner of our #1 Fan of Rocky Point contest during the raffle drawings in the afternoon at 3:30pm at the Sonoran Sun.


Saturday, Sept. 19th: 6pm - 8pm: Sunset Cruise
Experience the Sea of Cortez in the most exhilarating way possible - by a sunset cruise! This is by far one of the most beautiful, relaxing and rewarding experiences you can have while visiting Rocky Point.Drinks and snacks will be included with the sunset cruise. Be sure to bring your camera - you will most likely have a special guest appearance from the local dolphins swimming along side the boat!!
This is an opportunity you definitely do not want to miss out on!

After the sunset cruise, feel free to explore the rest of the town and many of our sponsors throughout the evening!



Sunday, September 19th: Eco-Tourism

A Tribute to CEDO's 30th Anniversary Start off your morning with a delicious breakfast buffet at the restaurant onsite at the Sonoran Sun Resort - Emiliano's. Join us from 8am - 10am and we will also be having raffle drawings during breakfast! You must be present to win!

In conjunction with CEDO's 30th Anniversary, we would like to introduce the Fans of Rocky Point to Eco-Tourism in Rocky Point.

Schuk Toak Visitor Center: This is the first building in Mexico that is completely self-sufficient energy wise. It’s 36 batteries are charged with 132 solar panels to produce 17,000 watts. What you will also notice is that these facilities were built on top of a flow of lava, next to a contrasting light colored sierra.

Outside the facilities you can contemplate the highest volcano called Santa Clara also known as Pinacate Peak, the majestic sand dunes, and the persistent vegetation growing in the gaps between the lava, among other interesting things.

In the audiovisual auditorium you can view documentaries and presentations regarding animals, plants, geological aspects of the Sonoran Desert and El Pinacate & the Altar Desert. By the way Schuk Toak means Sacred Mountain in the O’Odham language.

EL PINACATEis a volcanic region located in the northwest part of the State of Sonora. It covers part of Rocky Point, San Luis Rio Colorado and Plutarco Elias Calles counties.
It is divided in two zones, the first one allows the investigation and traditional use of resources and recreation such camping and exploring, and the nucleon land, meant to preserve the process of the ecosystem.

It has been declared biosphere reserve because of the beautiful territory and the biological diversity of the place.

This is definitely something that you will not want to miss visiting while in Rocky Point!
MORUA ESTUARY TOURS: This tour includes, Guide, kayaks, lunch, water, information on the estuaries of Puerto Penasco, MX Rocky Point area. The Estuaries are an Eco-Friendly environment not accessed by motorized boats. Kayaking is your only opportunity to visit the beautiful and calm waters and view the many birds and plants unique to these areas.

The Kayak tours are offered by Kayak Rocky Point and this is such an awesome experience!!

SAN JORGE ISLAND SNORKELING TOUR (BIRD ISLAND)
This is a wonderful boat tour to take! You will be able to explore and snorkel the warm open ocean around this island. You are guaranteed to swim with the sea lions that are always hanging out at Bird Island. Your tour also gives you the opportunity to view many different bird species and other marine life around the island. Bring your camera for this trip! You will definitely leave there with some of the most awesome experiences!!

All of these tours are also available on Saturday, September 17th. Again, you must pre-register for these activities.

I was just talking with Kelly the founder of the Fans of Rocky Point on Saturday evening... she donated a nebulizer and many other medical instruments to La Esperanza Para Nuevo Vida A.C. community center and it will be put to use by "Manos de Ayuda" Clinic... So if you should happen to meet with Kelly at any of these events, please Thank her for her contribution to help those in need in Rocky Point...


also on Saturday while at the community center for the tamale sale, just by coincidense I met with two theropists that are volunteers at the clinic "Manos de Ayuda" and one just happened to be a respitory theropist... how cool is that... I love it when stuff works out like this....

Next 9/15-9/16 Mexico is celebrating it's Bicentennial and 100th anniversary of independence(?) of 1910. Does anyone have any information on when the Mexican activities are?

Does anyone have info on where Mexico is celebrating it's Bicentennial on 9/15-9/16?

The celebration is in the streets, The corner of Benito Juarez and Fremont at the park, is closed for the celebration. Can[t miss it. Lots of food booths, dancing and music. See the Mayor re enact the grieta.

Thanks Roberto, I thought someone said the Grito was at the palacio(?) which I thought was citiy hall where the police station used to be, but is it in the parque? Do you know what time el grito is? Thanks for any info.

It's there in the street, the streets are closed off right ay the corner of Fremont and Benito Juarez, that's where the City Hall is. The park is across the street from city hall on the corner. that whole area is where stuff happens. The streets will be full of people.
