New Year's Fishing Report

The conditions were perfect in MX over the weekend. We fished the deep reefs on Saturday and caught 2 white seabass up to 30 lbs, 1 leopard grouper, 1 red snapper, 6 yellowtails, and 20 goldspot bass. The yellowtails were 8 to 10 pounds and most of the goldspots were huge.

We fished closer in on Sunday and caught 20 yellowtails and a small gulf grouper at the first location using jigs. Four of the yellowtails were 12 to 16 pounds. We then caught 8 pintos (spotted cabrilla) up to 29 lbs.

We managed to catch bonefish and corvina for bait, but couldn’t find any macs until later in the day while we were fishing. There we caught lots of sardines and macs and froze them for later use. After fishing both nights, we brought an assortment of fresh fillets to Capone's Seafood & Pizzeria and they made us their fisherman's platter. The food was amazing!

I hope make it out fishing a few more times this month if the nice weather continues.

If you haven't tried it yet, you need to order the Cedar Plank Fish entree at Capones. They make a vodka tomato cream sauce with shrimp and capers and serve it over a thick cut of grilled grouper. Heaven.
