Passports

When we were stopped at milepost 17 on the way home I was asked where I was coming from to which I replied Ajo. The border patrol agent asked if I had visited Mexico, to which I replied yes, so he asked for my passport to which I replied that I am not required to produce one after passing customs but I would gladly allow him to see my wife's green card as this was our obligation.
He told me that if I was coming from Mexico I must provide him with a passport.
What an idiot.

The point is that I don't feel an American should have to carry papers to prove citizenship/ I told him a drivers lisence would have to satisfy him this time but he didn't want to see it.
Ya' getting old and crochity!
