What fishes did aboriginal residents of Puerto Penasco Sonora catch and consume??

Looks like good eating and a heck of a fight! If we were betting cervezas, my limes would be on a Shortfin Corvina (Cynoscion parvipinnis) for that one. Slightly concave caudal (tail) fin, pectoral fins shorter than pelvic fins, probably had some canines in it too, no?

What fishes did aboriginal residents of Puerto Penasco Sonora catch and consume??

I've caught them in calm water bays before, like fishing Canyon Lake! Great day for sure, nothing over 15 lb though.

The pic of Kenny holding the White Seabass is more of a White Seabass than an Orangemouth Corvina there Stuart ;) Good stuff!

Nope, no submissions yet! Not surprising though, they usually take until mid April to start showing up in sizable numbers in Peñasco. Good luck sir!

    Fishfinder and basic Safety Gear

At minimum I take a cheapie whistle/compass (REI and Walmart have these for cheap) clipped to my PFD. I also stick a small compressed-air air horn in the kayak hatch. If nothing else, it works great for waking up hungover people when the tamales arrive (when it's not in the yak). Good luck.

What's in the surf and inshore this time of year?

I fished almost every bait cloud of anchovies that came by (and there are quite a few) and it was all Leatherjacks, no Corvina, quite a bummer. Did much better on Rapalas than spoons. Good luck and let us know how it goes

    Road Trip II

Gracias Senor Jaime de la Selva, I'll check it out. If upon the next morning's fishing venture, I burn a "china-syndrome-esque" hole through the seat of my kayak, I will think of you fondly as I watch my tupperware Titanic sink to the depths of the Cortez.

Dumb question maybe: where are the best taco stands in San Carlos/Guaymas?

    Aquatic cocaine

"Kinda sorta" as I understand it. The fish in China is the Chinese Bahaba, another croaker whose bladder is also super dee duper medicinal. Similar to the Tototaba, there are still small populations of the fish around: http://www.biosch.hku.hk/ecology/porcupine/por24/24-vert-3-croaker.htm...

Heading down in June, what are your tackle/gear/setup suggestions...??

That's the exact rod I use, you'll love it. Good luck!

Heading down in June, what are your tackle/gear/setup suggestions...??

That's what I do, just probably with a smaller rod than you're thinking. I've caught rays and guitarfish on the small rod with 2 Oz of lead and squid or shrimp and they generally do hook themselves. The swing of the tide in the SOC is so ridiculous that being able to cast super far really...
