The phones at Telcel are expensive. I bought my Samsung flip phone on ebay for $30. As long as you buy a GSM Quad band unlocked phone, it will work with Telcel. Then you just buy the minutes you need. Minutes expire after 90 days, so just buy what you are going to use.

The satellite coverage is basically a large circle extending from the US East coast to the West Coast. Since the country is much wider than it is tall, the signal extends into Northern Mexico and Southern Canada. Rocky Point is in the coverage area.

They do have Wifi but it is a sucure system and it up to whoever you are renting from as to if they want to give you the password or not. My brother stayed there a couple weeks ago and the owner did not give him access.

I have never been that way, but for what I understand, it is not paved and 4WD is recommended. I have also heard that alot of drug runners use that route. I don't have 1st hand experience. This is just hearsay.

I have always like the Vina Del Mar at the Malecon. It is an older place, but it is comfortable and the prices are decent. I have friends who have visited from Texas 2 times a year for the last 10 years and they have pretty much settled in there.
