    shore slam

I catch bonefish at La Pinta on bottom-fished shrimp. Once the tide is up so far that I'm fishing over the sand, then that is more or less all you can catch, as they jump on it so quick. Must have caught a dozen or more of the things (In the daytime) on my last summer trip (July).

    La Pinta 11-13-11

It is the far (East) side of the La Pinta estuary. I'm sure somebody knows the mile marker number just west of the turnoff from the Caborca road onto the dirt road to the beach, but I don't. It was a day trip, from Tucson.

    La Pinta 11-13-11

Finally found another spare day for a day trip down to the beach. This time with the little Shore-Fisher in tow as well. Needless to say, I was a little late in getting out of the house, but no worries - I was a little concerned that 6 hours on the beach may be a little too long for a...

    Full Moon Fishing ??

Can you lure fish at night? Is there enough light for that? I assume they can see the bait fish in the dark, so I suppose the lure should work.... But I always feel a little silly throwing out a shiny Kastmaster in the pitch black.. Ed

La Pinta - Shore Fishing 7-4-2011

Didn't see a sign. There are still the four gate posts at the entrance, but no sign of any actual gate.

La Pinta - Shore Fishing 7-4-2011

I think you're right about the Graysby, but the jumping fish had a much deeper body than a ladyfish - Sort of halfway between one of those and a leatherjacket

La Pinta - Shore Fishing 7-4-2011

Set off from Tucson at around 5:30 AM Monday for a quick day trip to the water. It was wet and a little rainy, with Kitt Peak smothered in thick clouds. Avoiding quite a few 'free range' cows on the first part of the trip, I fueled up in Why and grabbed a tasty burrito for breakfast before...

Shore Trip Coming Up - Any Tips?

My dad is visiting for his annual trip to Tucson in about a month and we're planning a couple of days shore fishing and beach camping (Hopefully it has cooled off a bit...). Plan is for La Pinta - Any other suggestions or tips on target species/techniques? Ed

    help me bonefish

See pictures below. The area being discussed is the La Pinta estuary, on the side opposite PP. Area 3 on the maps. I have caught several bonefish from the shore on shrimp bait waiting for the Corvina to start biting. I normally fish area 3b, and normally catch bonefish when the tide is up and...

Best time of year for shore fishing?

I drive over to the far side and onto the beach, then fish from shore at La Pinta. I have camped for the last 10 years down there, last time a few months ago. Never had any trouble from either the fish camp people, or the peole who live in the houses further round the point. A while ago we used...

Beach House for Easter Weekend - Any Tips/Leads?

I'm looking to go down to PP this weekend with another family (4 adults and 5 kids). Looking for a 4-bed place on the beach (Or very near). Want a quiet time rather than party central. I'm looking for any recommendations on what area to stay, any nice places anyone knows about, or tips on the...

    Bucktail kastmasters?

On the subject of species caught from La Pinta, in addition to Stuart's list, I have caught bonefish, puffers, and some other sort of bone-fishy/corbina-like things on bait. I have also been cut off at the surface on a lure by what I believe were Sierra, at the end of the summer.

    Bucktail kastmasters?

On the sting rays, I can tell you that a headlamp shined into the shallows while fishing a warm evening will show you an awful lot of pairs of 'lights' shining back. When they start moving around you realize they are the little sting rays. Everyone of them appears to have different coloration...

    Bucktail kastmasters?

I've found that the Corvina seem to stay out of the estuaries when the weather is particularly cold. The times I've fished La Pinta during a cold snap over Thanksgiving, I've caught very little. During 'normal' Thanksgiving weather I've always had good sport.

Excellent, now you're talking! Bring on those whole shrimp. One week furlough after new year, so I'm off to La Pinta. Fingers crossed for 45-65 degree weather, not 30-50....
