$80,000 fish caught

Bluefin tuna

As one of the most highly prized fish in Japanese sushi, bluefin tuna has been overfished and exploited. The problem is so severe that WWF has predicted that the Atlantic bluefin could be eaten into extinction by 2012. Unfortunately, the rarity of the species has only made demand for it grow. A single bluefin tuna can sell for more than $100,000 at Tokyo's famous Tsukiji fish market, and despite the animal's grim circumstances, there is still no international fishing ban in place.

Sushi?

Shame they aren't in the Sea of Cortez. Guess I'll have to continue catching and selling 250 lb. totuava on the black market to make a living! :lobster:

On an added note, Mitsubishi has been buying and cryogenic freezing blue fin tuna for some time now. They are banking on the day they are extinct and they'll be able to go to the freezer and pull one out and sell it for more per oz. than gold. No bullshit. Google it.

Me personally? "Hello, Japanese fish broker??"

Pacific Bluefin

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17917677 Roberto, we fished near the Bluefin Ranches off the coast of Ensenada and caught several bluefin in the 45 to 75 pound bracket. The fish are boat shy, so the captain set the rods up with helium balloons to get our baits over to the fish. We used to go every Labor day weekend to fish for Albacore tuna, the Bluefin were a bonus.
