A new spin on an old proverb...

It used to be that if you "Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for life..."

Nowadays, it's more like:

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and he will spend the day on a boat drinking beer"

wait - shouldn't it be "..... teach a man to fish and he will be taxed to provide for the 50% who do not fish."

see this is the way a fun thread like this goes to crap...Some Jan Brewer fan (most likely inherited his money) decides to make political points.... American kids are all pretty stupid compared to socialist Europe's kids....just a fact....

see this is the way a fun thread like this goes to crap...BS alert...Here we go with the typical liberal response...Some Jan Brewer fan (most likely inherited his money)subtly implied insult ie; we know better than you... decides to make political points.... see how he does this...he may not know himself...American kids are all pretty stupid compared to socialist Europe's kids....just a fact....combination of implied insult and changing the subject. This is where he drops the ball.... Next will be changing the subject some more followed by more insults, no real facts to back anything up, mind you...then going away.
Oh, I almost forgot... this is also where the others pile in.

Wait, maybe it should be "..... teach a liberal monkey to pick his butt and ....... that is exactly what he will do all day long."

This middle aged American kid is smart enough to know that this country has a serious problem when 50% of US citizens have ZERO federal tax liability (up from 20% back in 1980).

Ahh Happy Hour at Cholla's again......Not even going to try to erase the Fox news talking points from your brain. My point is the silent dog whistle talking point posted by the Sun Devil (hey how about those B-Ball devils!) being stuck into a nonpolitical thread is typical behavior among people that listen to excessive amount of toxic rightwing hate radio. Why bring Americas tax structure into a thread about a day at sea?

If Cholla could put two sentences together, he just might be a force to reckon with.

Now as far as our new friend go's, I wonder how long he's been waiting to post that cute little saying, and if he'll be kind enough to share more of his astute observations of his siblings.:notme:.

OK wait...

At the risk of throwing more logs on the fire... SunDevil's point is NOT political. It is FACT. The total tax burden imposed on US Citizens by the federal government (which has been increasing steadily since 1971) is being paid by a increasing minority of middle and upper-middle class taxpayers.

This is not political... go look at the demographic data on the IRS website. It is right there in black and white.

The number of Americans "too poor" to pay taxes is rising much faster than the number of people "rich enough to get out of paying taxes by hiding behind corporations" , but the end result is the same - the people who are not rich enough to bribe/weasel/incorporate their way out of paying, but are rich enough not to be in poverty, are picking up the tab for EVERYONE...

fact, not politics.

Since I started this thread in the first place, I declare imminent domain over the right to hijack it and send down another set of tracks... :)

Facts are not debatable... however, your observation about American versus European kids is debatable... Therefore, it can not be a fact.

Modus Ponens. Google it.

Maybe you're not paying attention, or you're just looking where you want to... Are you saying that this little jab is not political?
teach a liberal monkey to pick his butt and ....... that is exactly what he will do all day long."
His point may be factual, but his monkey business is political. This Monkey business is what our new friend posted first, at the top and up front. His "facts" are secondary, obviously.

The real problem is how many Americans are poor, not how much they pay in taxes.

[h=2]While America’s jobs and economy remain flat, it’s getting more expensive to be poor, with everyone from payday lenders to subprime credit cards charging extortionate rates. Gary Rivlin crunches the numbers to find just how much it costs. .America[/h]

Hi Kenny-

Yes, I was looking elsewhere. I zeroed in on SunDevil's first post in this thread:

wait - shouldn't it be "..... teach a man to fish and he will be taxed to provide for the 50% who do not fish."
Which I did not think was political, and was followed by Jerry:

see this is the way a fun thread like this goes to crap...Some Jan Brewer fan (most likely inherited his money) decides to make political points.... American kids are all pretty stupid compared to socialist Europe's kids....just a fact....

Which I thought WAS political.

I think SunDevil stated a researchable fact about who pays what, and Jerry turned it political. (which is cool - I started the thread, and have offered my full blessing to a complete derailment of the original topic)

Sundevil's jab about monkeys certainly did not strengthen his first point about taxes, which could have stood on it's own merit.
The real problem is how many Americans are poor, not how much they pay in taxes.
You and I are in 100% agreement on this point: although I would expand it to include the number of poor people on EARTH, not just the US.

However, It is my opinion that it is nobody's "responsibility" to make poor people more wealthy via government "redistribution", which is merely a fancy term for theft. Remember, Robin Hood was a thief... noble? perhaps, but a thief nonetheless.

I think it is the responsibility of all of us to make sure that everyone gets a fair and honest shot at reaching their greatest personal potential.
The rules of the game should favor no one. But, unfortunately in today's world they DO favor the people that are already the most comfortable... this is wrong in my opinion.
