Deadly drug violence hits near Rocky Point

Terrific.... super. Fu*#ing media - this is preciely the kind of incomplete and askew reporting I hate them for. While the core if their report is absolutely true, it's the little things they do that are so goddamn manipulative and just perpetuatue fears.
1) The map graphic they show doesn't even display Y Greiga; but it sure as hell shows Puerto Penasco - and that's all skiddish people will remember.
2) They leave out - glaringly - the paramount facts that it was drug faction violence against one another - in ONE of the two reports they quickly mention in passing that it was not tourists "but this is concerning to American tourists". Yes, true, but it certainly leads the viewer who is getting all of their info from them in an, "Oh my, yes - Mexioc certainly is no place for me" mindset.
3) One of the slimiest tactics: they play file footage of shot out cars and military and unidentified mexican men with automatic weapons OVER their immediate speak about "near Rocky Point" or "a town frequented by Rocky Point tourists". People hear clips and phrases and they only make connections in their minds in this broken memory sort of way, and thus the media creates and perpetuates hysteria, instead of accurately educating through ethical and responsible reporting of every fact, in context and with a focus on getting the story straight.

Wow La Huerita... and I thought your last blog on this subject was insightful - you have topped yourself - this is DEAD ON. THANK YOU - thank you for being a beacon of wisdom. For me, perhaps the most signoficant part of your blog was this:

Lovin it in RP!
It has to be said that if people were killed in Mesa or in Awatukee or wherever, the story would be written about that place. I have to go to Phx once in a while but I do not perceive it as being unsafe (regardless of the crime rate) because my logical mind tells me so. On the other hand I live in Penasco and I feel safe because my logical mind tells me its true.
If I looked at the facts of the situation, I would be very afraid to go to Phoenix and very happy to be home in Penasco. Knowing that crime happens everywhere on earth and that "time and unforeseen occurrence befall us all" i will always take my chances and use my perceptive powers to live in Mexico!

Well said, Russ. I concur. Using your logical mind is always a good bet.
Multiple threads about murders, killings, etc, are scaring people, even if they don't read the entire thread.
