Penasco Bay

You guys have to read the rest of the thread at that website. The Penasco Bay project is still on hold and right now there is no indication when that will pick back up.

For all that do not know the location, Penasco Bay is next to the harbor that will harbor one to two cruise ships a week.
Is that the harbor area that the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) has nixed? That, as things stand today, will not get built? See CEDO Victorious in Sandy Beach Resorts Marina Controversy (with a picture). Or are you talking about a different harbor?

Penasco Bay is on the far side of Esmeralda Resort. From an article about a year ago about the project being put on hold: "The billion-dollar Penasco Bay Resort at Sandy Beach is being developed by Grupo Questro, a well-known developer from the Los Cabos, Baja area and Grupo SBR, which is the developer of Sandy Beach Resorts. Located on the far side of the Esmeralda Resort, Penasco Bay is 630-acre project designed to feature two 300-room beachfront hotels, 900 beachfront condominiums, an 18-hole golf course and resort with 1,000 homes and 1,000 more condominiums, and a convention and expo center to be built by the state of Sonora. One of those hotels is to be an upscale Marriott, originally expected to open in 2011. Marriott will brand and manage the hotel, but will not own it."

I've heard that they're working on the Marriott but don't have first hand knowledge of it. Anyone been out that way lately?

Personally, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for those cruise ships. Of course I could be wrong; do you have current information on when we can expect them?

This is on Sandy Beach. The underground parking is already started and will include The Reef Club.
Oh...you must be talking about that big hole in the ground in front of the Reef RV park!!! :rofl:Oh wait, that was going to be the marina!!!:stir:

Huerrita, that was <Sarcasm>. Marriott would only be the "manager" if it ever would exist. Using the Marriott name is in my opinion disingenuous at best and at worst an attempt at fraud for other sales exploits.

For the Record, I never expect one cruise ship with more that 200 persons ever to dock in RP.
I never expect P.Bay to see the light of day. I never expect "casino" Licenses be issued.
I expect a slow deterioration in Sandy beach as funds and debt slowly strangle the condo craze as reality sets in. Unpaid taxes and HOA fees in will continue to soar, and capital sales continue to plunge.

How is that? :ugeek:
What's the name of the casino just as you arrive in town? Roger Cliftons opened it a couple months back.

:-D

I did say "Marriott will brand and manage the hotel, but will not own it." ;) I don't think that's either disengenuous or fraudulent, particularly since Marriott itself has openly said they won't own it. It's very common for hotel companies to "brand" hotels and manage them. It gives them a nice profit without the risks incurred by owning the properties, and gives the owners of the properties the benefit of having a recognized brand to attract guests. I'd bet that Marriott, Starwood (Sheraton, Westin, etc.) manage more hotels than they own, by a long shot.

Wyndham has branded the Mayan Palace, for instance, and I don't think they even manage it. Just put their name on it; good for Wyndham, good for Mayan (at least in theory).

Now, if it were a condo project rather than a hotel, and sales people were letting potential owners believe that Marriott owned it, that would be another story...

I don't expect to see any cruise ships any time soon, either. And if they do come, they'll probably have to anchor offshore in deeper water and use tenders to ferry passengers ashore. They do that in an awful lot of places and it works just fine.

I hope you're wrong about what will happen to Sandy Beach; that wouldn't be good for RP. But even if you ARE wrong, I think it will be at least another decade before life really starts to come back to that development.

Is there a real Casino in town? One you can play Blackjack or Craps? I am only aware of the Black dog slot machines.
As far as I know there are a couple now, the 777, big and small, both located in Fremont Blvd and the new Clifton, forgot the name, at Posada Leon by the stadium, I really do not know what games they offer, rather give my money to the kids of RP!! :eek3:
