reelhard report for feb. 5th and 6th

We left phx. at 3 oclock in the morning on the 5th and arrived in rocky point at 7:15. Took the boat to the pemex and fueled her up. got on the water at 8:15. It was a beautiful ride out. We had flat seas all day. the action was great. we caught a mixed bag of white sea bass, gold spots, california sheep head and a mess of red snapper. The ride out was a little chilly but once on the fishing grounds with no wind the tempature was perfect.

We arrived back to the marina around 5:30 loaded up the boat on the trailer and ran back to the pemex to refuel. We planned to go out on sunday also.

We awoke sunday morning and took our Doug and his son trevor out for a day on the water. the ride out again was nice. but by noon the wind started picking up. so after we had a good haul of snapper sheephead and gold spots. we decided at 1oclock to head to some closer reefs where the mountains would protect us from the wind. we caught a few rockbass and hooked them on for bait. Within 5 minutes we had a grouper on the line. trevor reeled this thing up in quickly. it was a beautiful 20 lbs leopard grouper. I guess when you catch a fish on a penn 12/0 reeled spooled with 200 lbs test and a rod that has a rating of 100 to 130. the fish does not have a chance.

looking forward to the next trip. hopefully in 1 week.... will post pics again when scott is over to download.

Better a 20 pounder on 200 lb. test than a 100+ pounder on 30 lb. test!!
