And a Security expert pens this worrying note'

"Raul Benitez, a security expert at Mexico’s National Autonomous University, said that “Puerto Penasco is an area with a lot of movement, a lot of traffic, and it’s perfect for setting up a corridor to sell cocaine, heroin or marijuana and ship it into the United States.” As the Mexican government tries to shut off the other big corridors in Texas and California, “the Sonora corridor was the one left for the Sinaloa cartel,” he said.

It appears at least one other gang is now trying to move in on the corridor.

Mexican law enforcement officials declined to say who was behind this week’s mass killing, but Coulson said it might be the Beltran Leyva gang, which controlled the area around Mexicali to the east before two of its top gang leaders were arrested or killed.

“My best guess is this is the Beltran Leyvas trying to re-establish control in Sonora,” Coulson said.

I know this is a tangled political web . . . Apparently I just don't get it . . . But you'd think if Nieto is so concerned with new commerce and across-the-borders opportunity, to the extent of staging dramatic "security" events in Penasco and the "capture" of El Chappo, why would this (consequential, inevitable) war have been instigated, and then go unchecked?

Take a look at the banks. They can't say no either. They are making billions laundrying the drug money. The feds catch them and all they get is a slap on the wrist. The next day they are back at it.
What banks? Do you mean the Mexican banks?

http://www.globalresearch.ca/money-laundering-and-the-drug-trade-the-role-of-the-banks/5334205

"One thing the American government has not done is to prosecute the largest banks in the world for supporting the drug cartels by washing billions of dollars of their blood stained money. As Narco sphere journalist Bill Conroy has observed banks are ”where the money is” in the global drug war.

HSBC, Western Union, Bank of America, JP Morgan Chase & Co, Citigroup, Wachovia amongst many others have allegedly failed to comply with American anti-money laundering (AML) laws.

The Mexican drug cartels have caught the headlines again and again due to their murderous activities. The war between the different drug cartels and the war between the cartels and government security forces has spilled the blood of tens of thousands of innocent people. The drug cartels would find it much harder to profit from their murderous activity if they didn’t have too big to fail banks willing to wash their dirty money.

In March 2010 Wachovia cut a deal with the US government which involved the bank being given fines of $160 million under a ”deferred prosecution” agreement. This was due to Wachovia’s heavy involvement in money laundering moving up to $378.4 billion over several years. Not one banker was prosecuted for illegal involvement in the drugs trade."

Money and the drug business in Mexico.
There has been a lot of interest in the money laundering stuff, but here is something I find more interesting to speculate about.

Plug in a number of dollars that come into Mexican economy as a result of drug sales. There are lot of estimates, no one really knows, including the cartel people as they do not share accounting details. There is general agreement that it is a very large number.

Keeping it in cash is problematic, subject to theft or discovery by the police. Can't deposit into the local bank for safe keeping. A very significant part of this money goes directly into the Mexican economy in a myriad of ways. Wages, purchases of vehicles, cattle, boats, land, homes. etc. Building stuff like homes, commercial buildings creating a second tier of purchases and wages. Investing in ongoing businesses, farms, ranches, fishing boats creating more jobs. I think this money filters into most regions of Mexico, adding to the economy in a very significant way, even taxes. You can read about comments made by individual people here who depend for survival on a small income for services rendered to the cartels. I know for a fact that many of the middle managers spend what they get as quickly as possible, buying vehicles, boats, motorcycles and stuff for family members like homes, vehicles and putting stuff in the name of family members. Keeping cash is dangerous.

Now imagine that tomorrow all of this money stops flowing into Mexico. What would you imagine the effect to be? My guess is that is one of the largest contributors to the overall economy of Mexico and if it dried up there would be an economic disaster with lost jobs and wages, major and minor purchases of goods and services and second tier jobs.

Similar logic in the US but maybe more loss of enforcement jobs, vehicle purchases, supplies, fuel, etc. etc. Certainly many millions of dollars.

Now surely some pointy head govt. accountant or politician here or in the US has thought about this problem as it would create problems in the US as well as here. Wouldn't this provide some interest and motivation on the part of governments to NOT stop the cartel business? Not to mention the business that profit indirectly for drug sales.

Hard to express how much I dislike this style of writing:

Mexico is in the grip of a murderous drug war that has killed over 150,000 people since 2006. It is one of the most violent countries on earth. This drug war is a product of the transnational drug trade which is worth up to $400 billion a year and accounts for about 8% of all international trade.

How about this alternative:

Over 150,000 Mexican people have been murdered to satisfy the insatiable appetite for illegal drugs in the US. This war on Mexicans and attendant murders have been motivated and supported by US criminal drug users. Every criminal drug purchase in the US contributes money and motivation to this mayhem. A generally and statistically safe and peaceful country has been negatively impacted by US criminals making some towns unsafe for children to be in the streets. etc....

No, they are expecting an attack . this is good to but sort of lost in translation "
By Marcos López Robles Fco

Dejan "trembling" to Sonoyta members of the State Security Police Post PESP by a commander named Varela, complaints everywhere I leave the operational frustrated conducted in that border region, "acorrientandose" said group leader, letting their stolen items to perfumes in some raids they made.

Complaints of citizens have been expected in various social networks, which suggests that "robbery" was the next item in the operation conducted in Sonoyta border.

Alert citizens Altar, Sonora, this group just settle their real in this population, after leaving practically shaking Sonoyta residents, their actions come to tarnish the work of state corporation.

Very unfortunate that these actions are carried out within the framework of impunity unfortunately are PESP authorities who rule this region to fight organized crime, who looks more like coming to the region to loot and rob who leave.

And that to combat organized crime, as is also seen, as the group that heads this Group Leader named Varela, seem to have a strong link with the criminal groups, not grasping or hour, unless to "give away" some kilos of pot to present work.
