The Department of State has issued this Travel Warning to inform U.S. citizens about

Kenny...my point was that the State Dept. was issuing warnings about travel to Mexico...while Obama's daughter went to Mexico.....all the Presidents abuse their Secret Service protection (Dem./Repub?)...although, Obama's family "vacations" seem a bit extravagant and frequent, considering the state of the economy...but that's probably Fox News talking (or Rush....)...right??? :stir:....
It is impossible for a sitting president to "abuse" his Secret Service protection. Protection is not a choice for the president, it is required by law. Do we really want to live in a country where the president’s children are not protected? I can only imagine the breakdown in the decision making process knowing that your child is in danger or could be held by terrorists. Every president, regardless of their political affiliation should be protected. Everyone should realize that the Secret Service is not protecting a person, but the integrity of the office to which they were elected.

The issue here is not the protection afforded the first family, but the double standard by the current administration when it comes to travel in Mexico.

No comment on the first part of your post; but BRAVO for the last sentence.

The other fact you guys seem to be overlooking is that Malia is on a school sponsored service project. As a 14 year old she's not on a beer-fueled wild spring romp on the beach!
Bravo for her trip to Mexico to do something worth while.

Not that I have any information to the contrary on your post....but you know this how? Much of the info on her "spring break" trip has slowly disappeared off the internet..... And I'm sure that the Obamas have reimbursed the US Treasury for the travel costs for the "school sponsored" trip.....and I'm not talking about her Secret Service protection detail!

As for "abuse" of Secret Service protection....the presidents used to take short vacations to Camp David....where protection was easier to accomplish...Obama and his family have been taking many trips abroard...which increases the level of protection required...and the manpower....and the costs. No one (at least not me) is questioning the need or reason for the Secret Service protection....just to the levels that recent Presidents have "needed" it for their families (Dem and Repub.)...that is the "abuse" I was referring to.

What, you only chose to see what you want to, and ignore what I put right in front of your face? Below is from the UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF STATE and what it gives are facts.
U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
General Conditions:..... THIS IS THE LINK Mexico

"Millions of U.S. citizens safely visit Mexico each year for study, tourism, and business, including more than 150,000 who cross the border every day. The Mexican government makes a considerable effort to protect U.S. citizens and other visitors to major tourist destinations, and there is no evidence that Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs) have targeted U.S. visitors and residents based on their nationality. Resort areas and tourist destinations in Mexico generally do not see the levels of drug-related violence and crime reported in the border region and in areas along major". trafficking routes.

Joe has a problem with the money spent on the secrete service, but is still not sure about the money we spend on illegal wars. Trust me Joe, I get it.

seems if you want to have decent foreign relationships with these countries, that travelling to see them may be a good way to start that off. I'm not sure that "seeing Russia from our house" is quite the same as meeting officials face to face on their home turf
(I know that Sarah actually didn't say those words, I'm trying to add a bit of humor here)

  1. Sources: State Department data, media and other reports on Presidential activities.
  2. Visits = number of countries visited (e.g., if the President leaves the country and visits 6 countries before returning to the United States, that is counted as 6 visits).
You have to remember Joe, the world is smaller, and very complicated at this time in our history.

Kenny...how about digging up some stats on "family" trips (wives/kids/vacations)....that would be interesting to see.....

Can you please explain exactly what is more complicated in the world today?

and please keep it simple- remember I only have 12 years of college and 3 degrees, so common sense is not my strongest skill....

My job takes me everywhere- I often travel 100 days out of the year, and I see nothing more "complicated" today than it was in the 1970's.

Nothing.

I work at a college so I can speak from experience that it's very common for the professional student and the facility as well to have the common sense of a domestic Turkey. So keep your chin up, you're not alone.

Here ya go, homework... Since 1990, 34 new countries have been created.New Countries - The World's Newest Countries

Ummmm.... Countries that no longer exist: Missing Countries - Countries That No Longer Exist

So, it seems that countries form and collapse like soap bubbles as part of a fairly regular global process. But let's just ignore that for a moment and assume that adding countries actually does add complexity.

Ok, so what detail about that "fact" actually adds all this new complexity, exactly?

Is it the presence of new/more governments (and therefore increased bureaucracy, people herding and politics)...?

or is it the prescence of new/more borders (and therefore increased bureaucracy, people herding and administration)...?

Or, maybe it is the presence of new/more militaries and police forces (and therefore more people herding and widespread crime/murder)...?

Or, perhaps it is the presence of new central banks and new currencies (and therefore increased people herding and financial leverage against the already poor)...?

At this point I'll simply quote the immortal Albert Einstein:

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex"

You remember Einstein, right? The guy that represents the epitome of the complete failure of common sense?

When looking at your list of "new" countries, I also couldn't help but notice that the vast majority were formed following the collapse of "Global Socialism Headquarters, inc." (aka the USSR)... So, how does that little factoid resolve itself using common sense?

And even if the presence of more governments does indeed mean more global complexity, then what is the common sense solution to all this complexity, exactly?

(That's actually a rhetorical question- the answer is right under your nose, if you can claim an open mind, and a little "common sense" )

It's more complicated because we KNOW about it !! If you don't know about it how can you care about it. Tree falling in the woods stuff. Keep it simple, that's why Kenny likes the fish scarin outfit. Simple!

I really have to quit reading this forum at work drinking a soda. I nearly bathed my keyboard in it and I laughed so hard my colleagues came in demanding what was so funny. How do I explain this to them? Friggin' hilarious, Jack!
