Recovery was quick. I think we got the worst of the rainfall amount here in Peñasco. Also had friend drive down from Tempe yesterday, they timed it well as all roads were re-opened. Now paradise again!

I just escorted my son in his Ford Ranger P/U to the highway on my ATV. The Encanto road still has some very soupy mud and flooded areas. I would not recommend attempting coming in with anything but a high-clearance and preferably 4x4 vehicle as of right now. Even a water truck had a problem, it's rear left side sunk down in a soft spot on the high road. Be very cautious if coming in, many parts the road and also roads within Encanto have areas that washed away near the sides.

What difference a day makes when there is 100% sun out. I just rode back out to the highway on the Encanto road and I am happy to report that it is in MUCH better shape than yesterday. Still a few muddy spots but any vehicle should not have a problem coming in or out now.

Man the road still sucks heading out past the airport before you get to Dorado ....four cars stalled out at first low point with maybe two feet of water. If traveling after dark n stay in the passing lane....then you hit three more crossings and about 400 yards where the whole road is covered...at night after a few beers this might be an adventure... Worst potholes ever at SanGorge ..cover the whole road but not to deep......then on the brighter side the new road heading south is finished from the military checkpoint all the way to lobos.....

Oh also cop gave a guy going just over 90k (55) a speeding ticket about halfway to Penasco....

It sounds like the best route from Penasco to Caborca would still be the longer route through Sonoyta then?
Any thoughts from any recent travelers would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pickup truck or SUV and you will be ok but just barely

I'm thinking that even with the extra miles through Sonoyta, given the alternate road condition, that it might still be faster with substantially less wear and tear on our truck.
Thanks.

I will post a picture tomorrow...basically have to guess where the road is and people coming the other way doing the same thing...still going slow a truck like my f150 would only have one spot where it might stall out ...right at the start....

The water level is bad enought but worst when it conceals a huge pothole in the lake. Even on city streets I wait till someone goes through and follow them carefully watching for the vehicle to fall into a pothole !! I destroyed a tire going to Super Ley a few years back the result of a submerged hole.

Should I wait to purchase those guard gated custom home lots in Puerto Libertad? I remember the brochure showing a custom home subdivision, guard gated with 4 tiers leading to the ocean. What was the name of that dreamed development?
