New Stuff in Penasco

Out on Benito Juarez, close to the Bodega Aurra you can now buy Lucas Chicken. On the left side of the street just past the Bodega when coming into town you will see a structure with signs, 'Lucas Chicken". Not as large as the original. Guess it's the same as the other one closer in town but I have not stopped there.

Close to the new Lucas Chicken, on the same side of the street but a short distance closer to town there is now a Go Cart Race Track. The track takes up the parking lot of that large walled festival joint and is defined by a large number of tires outlining the track. You can't miss it. The 'go carts' look very new and more like the poplular multi seat 4 wheelers that are rented than the old style go cart. They have a sort of Hummer looking front end. This may be a temporary thing like the Carnivals that come to town, time will tell. No idea about rental rates or anything else but it's something new to to for those so inclined. Probably a lot of fun, I might even try it !!

I can see Roberto going to the Go-Kart track, all decked out in his NASCAR racing suit!

My son and I noticed the track heading out of town last time. Does look like fun. I always thought a "putt-putt" golf course, you know, a minature golf course with the obstacles, and windmill, and traps and such would be a great addition for both tourists and locals! Cheap entertainment and family fun!

Yep a PUT-PUT course would be great and also a bowling alley. A local and I were talking and one thing that is really missing in Penasco are entertainment things like Put-Put and a bowling alley where birthday parties could take place, etc. Anybody here know anything about setting up a bowling alley?

Lovin it in RP!
Bowling alley is expensive but is possible. The putt putt idea is a great one maybe we can put together a syndication to make it happen?

I think that a permanent, small scale amusement park would be a terrific addition. It would appeal to the Mexican visitors even moreso than the US folk. A childs water park would be fantastic. Minature Golf, sure the Mayan can sponsor that. Right off Calle 13 near the beach a perfect location.

I'm not sure on the bowling alley thing. Too gringo. Maybe it's just me, but I can't say I've ever seen a bowling alley anywhere in Mexico; doesn't seem to be a Mexican thing?? I dunno... but I definitely think putt-putt golf would be a hit. And as Roberto said, an amusement or water park.

My only fear is: We'd be turning Penasco into Disneyworld or BuschGardens or something. I think as long as it was a small venue and geared 1st and foremost to Mexican locals and tourists and was affordable to them. I don't know how anybody can afford to take a family to Disneyworld for a couple of days anymore. Just ridiculous!

Just got back from FLA and I gotta tell you - Epcot is a weird place for adults with no kids......185.00 to get in and almost a million dollars for hot dogs and beers.....I think we need that here

Yes, a small venue, none of this 'luxury' high end stuff. Something that the local residents would and could use on a regular basis and something that would add to the experience of visiting nationals. I'd keep it scaled to the younger kids. Great place for birthday celebrations too.

Russ -- we just got back from DisneyWorld, too. We didn't see you there!

It's not too bad a deal when you can use a family member's military discount. $139 per person for 4 days with Park Hopper.

Food can still get expensive, but you do have the option of bringing in your own -- you just have to carry it around with you. Of course you can't leave your cooler / backpack with the strollers while you go on a ride. They get all freaked out about unattended bags - even though they inspected everything coming in. But if you rent a stroller, you can leave all your bags on that while you're on a ride. Their precautions kind of make sense, but kind of don't, either.

I don't eat hot dogs from any of the street vendors, I question the sanitary conditions in where the food is made.

When I arrived in Puerto Vallarta, the operative hatred of Americans was very much in evidence. I went to a restaurant a couple blocks back from the beach, which offered attractive breakfast packages for 25 pesos. When I got seated there, the angry and offensive waitress refused to sell me the breakfast package and made me order off the menu, which ended up costing me more than twice as much for less food. I was by now interested in measuring the depth of the hatred Mexicans are harboring for the US citizen. I gave her a 10% tip, which she didn't deserve. She angrily and quickly snatched up the tip, and rushed across the room to stand there and glare at me.
