You can fish a shallow running crankbait like a Rapala. That's what I do. Bait runs about 6-8 ft., water is 10-15 ft so no hangups. You'll need one that will cast far - maybe an X-Rap.

Yeah, I fish alone on the kayak and probably shouldn't, but if I didn't I'd rarely fish.

Technically, yes. I usually get one just to be legal and support their fisheries but I can't imagine ever getting checked.

Caught plenty of Corvina from the yak Sunday evening. There were 50 yard long rivers of baitfish near shore and birds and Corvina feasting. Only problem was by the time I'd get one fish landed and unhooked, I'd be sucked into the breaking surf and end up having to land and re-launch...

Interesting. Of course dismantling the cartels will never happen. As long as there is demand for a product and the satisfaction of that demand is made illegal, crime organizations will emerge to satisfy it.

Playa Encanto isn't bad. There is a reef about 1/4 mile off Playa Encanto. It produces triggers all day. Lots of Corvina go right by the beach, usually seems like around sunset. Structure is here and there further out with bigger triggers and small groupers. Or head 2 miles northwest to the...
