Manny's Beach Club to open for the month of March

I agree Cactus Jack. Heading to Manny's for cold beers was something I always looked forward to when planning a trip to RP. I loved the great people, ocean view, sand and shell floor and weather beaten Dos XX tables and chairs. Tons of great memories at Manny's!

    Wine at the duty free?

Yes, UETA has wine but the selection is usually pretty limited to a small handful of wines - usually Spanish and Chilean vineyards. There is a great liquor store on the main drag into town (Benito Juarez), immediately past the train tracks on the right (west) side of the street that has a...

    Another Shooting along the boarder

18 miles west of Casa Grande on I-8 isn't really "along the border".

    Driving Directions and Carne Asada

Stuart is spot on with the 238 reco to Gila Bend from Maricopa. It's a prettier and more peaceful drive than I10. Some maps still show the 238 as unmaintained or dirt, but it's fine. Watch the speed traps in Gila Bend, Ajo and Sonoyta and you'll be fine. I've seen a few cops with speed...

Any trouble at the border ?

Drove down to RP Friday and returned this afternoon. Spent time in town and went to a few restaurants. Saw the Dia del trabajo parade on Saturday. Everyone was super nice as always. I was worried there might be some backlash, but the locals were really nice and everything seemed normal.

4.5 Mag Earthquake at Pinacate early this morning. Did anyone feel it?

Wunderground and usgs.gov show a 4.5 mag earthquake early this morning near Pinacate. Did anyone in RP feel it?

What will be hot for New Year's Eve in RP?

Will Manny's reopen for New Year's Eve? Any other bars with good New Year's parties in RP since it's a great three day weekend this year?

    Orionid Meteor Shower Peaks Overnight

I woke up and watched it in Las Conchas from 2:30 to 3:30. It was a perfect dark, clear night to watch it. Saw about 15 during the hour. I was expecting a ton of them, but only saw one every couple of minutes. Still very cool.

Whats the fastest way to get there from PHX?

Tyler - I have to think the 238 route is much faster than heading down to the I8. From Maricopa, you're shaving 31 miles off the trip by taking the 238 to Gila Bend versus heading down to the I8. (I fully understand you have to detour off I10 to get to Maricopa, but that road moves pretty...

Whats the fastest way to get there from PHX?

I'm in East Phoenix and do the Maricopa to Gila Bend route via Maricopa Rd/238 also. It might not save you much time compared to the I10, Buckeye to Gila Bend, but it's much mellower and you don't have all the Mad Max craziness of the I10. My wife calls the 238 "Dead Cow Road" because of all...

    jellyfish and stingray stings

A great resource on this topic is a book called All Stings Considered. A lot of people think their jellyfish remedies work because the intense pain disappears so quickly. http://www.aloha.com/~lifeguards/alsting2.html

    WTF(ruit) was THAT?

Shawn, You probably could have pulled off the volleyballs if you took them out of the boxes and kept them in a ball bag. It's new stuff in original packaging, electronics, and big quantities beyond personal use that seem to trigger the Mexico customs guys. We brought a Suburban load of...

    What a beautiful weekend!

I agree! What a great weekend. Can't believe it's June - mid 80's highs and lows in the high 60s. Haven't even turned the AC on - just have the windows open and the nice sea breeze blowing. Perfect stuff.

top five things to do in RP with a family

I like how the "Top 5 things to do with your Family in RP" thread spirals into Black Widow conversation. Classic. I can't believe that thing is still lurking around the Mirador. Back to the OP's post- My legit ideas for the family and kids are: 1. Kites. There is almost always a good...

    Best and Worst of 08

BEST (kept secret) 1. No more multi-hour waits at the Lukeville border on Sunday afternoons. 2. Drive to RP on the Mexico 8 isn't as harrowing as a few years ago. 3. Evenings are quiet and peaceful. The 3 am cherry bombs don't boom as much. 4. Dollar is stronger against the peso. Hey, I'm...
