Oh my!! Throwing rocks, then more rocks on two threads.. Be careful, your going to hit yourself once more if you're not careful. Answer the "how about you" playa... Look, I know you like to donate your time and money to the strip joint's, but it's just not my style.
I spent the 4th in PP, if you just have to know, and stopped in to see friends in PP on my way down to Jerry's this month..Answer my question, "how about you".

Kenny...why don't you make a bunch of snowballs from the stuff that was supposed to have fallen in the high country (haven't checked to see if it had), freeze them, and then we can have a snowball fight between you and Playa in PP on Thanksgiving....now that would be fun!!!!

More info about the Marina...

CEDO Victorious in Sandy Beach Resorts Marina Controversy

After three years of legal battles led by CEDO (the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans), commercial divers from Puerto Penasco and the Mexican Center for Environmental Law (CEMDA), the Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) has determined that the Sandy Beach Resorts Marina could not be authorized to continue. Located between Sandy Beach and La Cholla, the proposed project would have altered two habitats of great ecologic and economic importance: a coastal wetland (Estero La Cholla) and the rocky reef in front of Sandy Beach.

The basis for SEMARNAT's decision was the lack of hard scientific evidence to state that the project would not have significant impacts on the environment. This ruling will stop the destruction of a shallow rocky reef that has immense ecological and social importance, including being used as a marine reserve by local commercial divers to promote sustainable fisheries, elevated levels of biodiversity, presence of several protected species and its proximity to the Upper Gulf Biosphere Reserve.

The decision affects plans for "Village E" and "Village G" of the Sandy Beach Resorts Master Plan (see image above). Included in the plan for Village E were: An External Marina, Internal Marina, Condomuniums, Town Center With Retail/Commercial, Timeshares, Hotel/Health Club, Yacht Club/Restaurants, and a Beach Club. Village G, just north of Village E, would include: Large Craft Marina Residential; Small Craft Marina; Residential Lots; and a Dry Dock Boat Storage Area.

See the rest of it at http://rptides.blogspot.com/2009/09/cedo-victorious-in-sandy-beach-resorts.html There's a picture of the masterplan, too, showing where that marina was supposed to go.

Really, you guys, you need to drop by The Tides more often. Sometimes I actually report real news. :D

As for the Reef, here is a quote from their website/blog in Sept. 2008:
I here the park is closing next year? 2009?
This is another rumor as people see the condos get closer. We are part of a group called Groupo SBR which is the land owner of everything from the railroad tracks to the Cholla Bay. The idea for those who come here and know the layout of the land is just behind our storage area will be the beginning of a marina. This will extend to the Northeast all the way to Cholla Bay. At some point yes this will be a Park that is moved to a new location within the Groupo SBR property.
Well, we know that the marina is down for the count, at least for now, so I wonder why the Reef is closing and where it will go? There's no update on the site yet about them closing. The last post there was in August 2009.

From my interaction with the Brown's and finally resolving their unfulfillment of costa diamante services: they have NO assets/cash available to be touched/invested in mexico. From my limited understanding, there will not be a marina anytime within the near future: (5+++ years).
There will not be a marina because of the damage that it will do to the ecosystem, I do not think has anything to do with the haves or have nots of the Brown family.
The Reef is probably closing because it is part of the master plan development and the the Brown family is most probably going to get a huge chunk of those millions that that particular area is going to bring, aren't they the owners/partners of the whole SBR conglomerate?IMHO :eek3:

Where does it say the carnival cruise line arm is dead in the water?

It doesn't. This is about the other marina, the private one. I've never been clear on where exactly the cruise ship marina is supposedly to be built (and I'll believe that when I see it). Anyone in the know on that?

I still don't believe the Reef is going away. My son goes to school with 2 of the 3rd or 4th generation Brown kids and I hear lots of inside info via him. No mention of anything. I don't pry but I just don't see it happening. And, for all that I have heard, the cruise part of the deal is still on. Time will tell.

My understanding is the the cruise ships will anchor out in front of sandy beach and they will use water taxis to bring their passengers into port.

the Reef

I know very little about the history of the Reef and the owners and such - but I thought I had read here (or somewhere else) that the current zoning will not allow major development.
I understand that with the right amount of $$, zoning can change quickly, but this never seems to come up.
can somebody fill me in on this?
thanks - we have never stayed at the Reef with our rv, but know others who have and enjoy it's location.

I really hate the thought of anyone delveloping that area... I have a trail that I can ride my mountain bike from the reef all the way along the coast to Pelican Point and then to Cholla Bay...

It's really beautiful back in there... I would hate it if it were cut off to the public like every where else in getting to be...

As per a sketch that I found back in july 2008 both, the marina and the cruise home port, where located together basically in front of what "The Reef" is now.
Even then the question of the impact in the ecosystem come up an answer was never given, now I know why, the actual study of the repercutions was not finalized but the proyect was presented as a go thruogh plan, maybe to motivate more sales?.....things that make you go MMMMMMMMMMHHHHH!!!!

I've tryed to upload the picture what it is not allowing me to, anyway they show both together in the sketch

If you look at the Master Plan for Sandy Beach Resorts, I believe the area where the Reef is now is called "Village D". Plans/Zoning for that area include 3 resort hotels, 3 beach clubs, casinos, a conference center and beach estates. This part of the plan abuts the (hopefully) defunct marina to the west and "Village A" to the east (where all the current development is located). I'm not sure if the planned Penasco Bay development by SBR & Grupo Questro (where the Penasco Marriott is supposed to go) is in Village A or Village D. http://www.sbrrealty.com/MasterPlan.html

I know that path well Mark. I'll bet you know the spot where that Osprey is always perched on that big rock that sticks out of the water in that cove. That's a great place to fish for me too! Not only can you catch some nice fish there, you can't see a building one.:sunny: It's just open water from that vantage point.

The marriot hotel footings are up, looks like they are taking a fiesta!!!

That would be section D on the SBR master plan.
