SB, Thx. We were there over 20 years ago riding our quads up and down the beach a few times,
That area is so nice like most of the beaches from Encanto to Santo Tomas.

That was the fuel range of our ATV's riding from Cholla and back and refilling in RP before going to home to Cholla.
I bet ATV's are a No NO on that beach today, like most places.

Banned on Encanto for years

ATVs are a no-no on Encanto, Dorada and Miramar. But there are back roads that accommodate ATV's through at least part of the stretch. (Well, at least there were about 20 years ago when I joined an ATV caravan to the Ostionera.)

Until Encanto and Playa La Jolla started growing during the early 90's, we could ride from the estuary where the oyster farms are to where the Mayan is now.
As soon as Playa La Jolla went in we were chased off of the beach by security guards on ATV's. Then we started going north past Black Mtn.
well, Laguna Shores went in, No more beach trips there.
Have only driven to Encanto in our SUV to visit the nice beaches for a day trip.
Times have changed but I (my butt) really doesn't miss being on an ATV for 30 miles of travel anymore. ;)

Thank you Horace! Not sure if Esmeralda is selling condos. If so it would be done internally with Esmerala sales, not with an outside realtor. Not sure why you think he is in charge of “revitalization” of Rocky Point. There is growth going on...a new movie theater to start construction near Sam’s Club, the rebirth and remodel of Manny’s Beach Club, the Malecon continues to have remodels and fresh paint. Seeing a lot of new construction homes every where. New restaurants are opening up all over town. On the down side South Side Jillz closed as Jill headed to Ensenada to operate a bar there. They are still projecting the home port for 2020. There is a Puerto Penasco home port facebook page for updates on the port. Power, water and sewer. CFE is the electric company. The bill comes out every 2 months. Mine for a 1400 sq ft, 2 bed, 2 bath home is between $50 & $90 for 2 months. I have 3 mini splits. I run the kitchen and living room all the time, turn the master bedroom on a half hour or so before bed and only run the guest bedroom when I have guests. My water ‘desalination plant’ and sewer is part of my HOA. A majority of people have water delivered. My property tax is about $100 per year, but I pay in January to get the discount, so it is really around $80 per year. Then there is the Bank Trust that is paid annually. Mine is $500 per yr. this summer has been the busiest I have ever seen Rocky Point. It seemed like Spring Break never ended. Most condos were reporting near 100% occupancy all summer. In my neighborhood all the rental houses were booked solid. My neighbor has her house in the rental pool and said she was making $6,000 per month, so I think the economy is doing well.
Well speaking as a fellow owner of multiple Sonoran properties, land and soon a damn gold mine I would not bet on that flawed El HomePort to get finished by 2020.The pause in the drug war is just that (still good news),the water issues are compounded with each newbie, the deported are increasing and ending in areas like ours and the relationship with the USA is at a really tricky spot.....a roll of the dice...

Jerry,
Do you not also consider the newly elected “El Presidente” a possible wild card in the renewed economic upswing?
The “Home Port” could become a casualty of the administration’s economic outlook. I (also) do not see crusing the “Baja” high on many travelers lists. Why would you depart from such a “small place” for a long cruise? Granted, I do not have a clear picture of what one might see or the reason why people actually cruise , I do not go on cruises.
Have you actually noticed an influx of individuals that are being turned back from the US border?

All along the border the numbers of deported and stuck without the proper papers to work in Mexico are way up.I see them in Y Griega more often now. They undercut the locals...work for food basically until established.

The word on the “Home Port” has dropped off. Is there anything happening at all?
I also wonder if part of the plan is to dredge out part of the bay(?) to accommodate the ships? If my memory and observation serves me, it is fairly shallow.

Someone is still in Rocky Point, enjoying life, drinking bloody Mary's like he owns the place. Snapped this yesterday. Must be nice to have lots of OPM (other people's money).

Well , He better enjoy it while he can...............where was he “sucking it up”? at what time of the day? Was he by himself?
Did he know you took his pic? Was he being civil?
Have you had any dealings with Mr. Butterfield?

No dealings (no axes here). Collins. He had a female with him. I did not engage him on the advise i've read here. The bloody Mary's were flowing.

I was tempted... but why ruin a beautiful weekend?

No, I sneaked snapped that pic while I was talking with the owner of Collins, whom I've known for for decades. Didn't even realize Brylcreem was there until he sushed me and pointed out he had just walked in and was sitting behind me. I had just mentioned this thread to him.

Hey, we all deserve happiness... but I was very surprised he isn't wearing handcuffs.

Meh. What the hell do I know.
