Child with hearing loss needs diagnosis...

Joe, Monday I talked to Lorena to see if her daughter Maria had talked with DIF about enrolling the deaf girl in the CRI program and Lorena said she had and was told for the time being CRI was only enrolling cancer patients (Fabiola was told just the opposite 2 weeks earlier, that they weren't accepting cancer patients.) So we definetly need to get Blanca involved. We also asked Lorena if we could take the baby to Mexicali to get her tested and told her some of the members of RPT had donated money for this and she started crying and told me to thank everyone. So thanks everyone from Lorena. Thanks Joe

I can just imagine Bill and Fabiola's frustration.....thanks for plugging away. I'm not sure how much can be accomplished in the next few days (wiith Christmas)....but I'm sure Mark will be reading this, and maybe Blanca might be able to do something.

Bill(lagrimas85) and his wife Fabiola have been "leading the charge" on this for weeks.....I've been mostly disengaged (other than bugging Bill on status)....had my own medical scare to deal with the last 3-4 weeks....but it's looking much better after a couple minor surgeries and good results from tests and labwork.....

I'm know the individuals who donated $$ did so without looking for any recognition....but I think I need to mention them anyways.....Joester, Ladyjeeper, and as always, Mark (Seadweller).....there are also others who have offered additional money if it's needed........THANK YOU ALL!!!!!:notworthy::gradea::notworthy:

Joe, its just they're not consistent with what they say so we are always starting over. If you call the Mexico City office their answering machne says they are not accepting cancer patients. When Fabiola talked to them last month they told her they would be happy to begin the enrollment anytime after the 6th of Dec. and now they tell Lorena they are only accepting cancer patients.

La Esperanza Para Nueva Vida & Manos De Ayuda

Joe, Saturday we met Blanca the director of LEPNV. We brought the little girl and her mother with us, we explained the situation with CRI and she said she had a better idea. So here it is. Just by chance the doctors with Manos De ayuda from Tucson were in RP on Saturday for childrens therapy sessions so Blanca had us meet her at the clinic where the therapists were working. The doctor asked us to have the baby tested in Mexico (We gave Blanca the phone number for an ear specialist in San Luis that we had talked to so she could explain the situation and try and negotiate a discount from him). Once Blanca makes the appointment, we will take the baby to San Luis and then Manos De Ayuda will begin to work on getting the mother and the baby papers to cross the border and will operate or arrange for hearing aides in Tucson. www.manosdeayuda.org/ La Esperanza Para Nueva Vida is trying to build a new kitchen and needs donations. Anything would help. cement, plywood, block, electrical wiring or money. Contact Seadweller with any donations for the baby or the kitchen.

Bill (lagrimas85)....you and Fabiola have gone "above and beyond" in trying to get help for the little girl. I may have posted the info on here about the girl, but you've been the ones doing all the work.

Just a general question....are the prices for building materials cheaper in the states? There are enough of us going back and forth that can bring in a little at a time....and is there any amount that can be brought in without paying the import duty?

BTW, I got stopped this last time going in to Mexico, but it was a cursory look....

It was a pleasure Joe, it turns out Lorena worked for a friend of mine as a cook when he owned Rocky Gardens. When we arrived at LEPNV, we met Harold (Trade) and then Mark showed up with Barb. At LEPNV they have different courses available for the poor people, sewing, english, beautician and also package food bought with the money that Harold brings every month, when they have the money they also build small houses. There were people from the states, Mexico and I met someone from Brazil packaging food on Saturday for distribution in the neighborhoods and we also unloaded a couple of the computers Mark was given in Phoenix.

Joe, we heard from Blanca this morning, she has negotiated a discount with the doctor and when we figure out when all involved can go, we will take the baby to San Luis to have her tested, if it turns out the baby can use hearing aids she negotiated a discount also but said it may be better to see what the doctors with Manos De Ayuda can come up in Tucson with as it may be free.

We still dont have an exact cost from the doctor, but it looks like it will be about $4000.00 pesos, not too bad we were origianlly quoted $6000.00. I am shooting for next week for the trip to San Luis.

Blanca stopped by for a visit yesterday and told me all about it... She also mentioned that she knows someone that sells hearing aids ($15,000. pesos) but she may be able to get a better price on them if that is what is needed...

We have raised $325.00 US dollars so far so with the exchange rate that should get us pretty close to the $4000.00 pesos needed for the Dr. visit...

Oops....my bad....heard brom Bill (lagrimas85) the other day telling me that....but forgot to post it up here. As soon as I hear anything from him on how it went, will get it up here....

Thanks playa....

Bill (lagrimas85) stopped by this morning for the money we raised ($325.00) and they left for San Luis this afternoon... just before he came to my house Bill talked with Blanca from La Esperanza Para Nueva Vida, she had set things up for them to get a discounted price from the doctor who is coming from Mexicali to San Luis to treat the little girl... Her appointment is at 8:00am tomorrow Friday Feb. 3, 2011...

So things have been started for the beginning of a new life and a new world for the little girl... depending on her diagnosis, if surgery is needed, she will be taken to Tucson by the doctors from the Manos de Ayuda clinic and she will receive further care in the US....

Thanks to all who donated and or lent a hand to get this little girl the help she needed... (I have pictures of her and her family on one of my cameras and soon as I find them I will post them here so you all can see who we are helping)

Thanks LJ... at the moment we just need to wait and see what her diagnosis will be, then we can find out if we can get it taken care of by Manos de Ayuda...

Just received a phone call from Bill... they are on their way home from the doctors appointment in San Luis... the diagnosis wasn't good, the baby needs to have operations... Bill said they are going to stop and see Blanca so work can get started on getting the little girl to Manos de Ayuda clinic and hopefully to a hospital in Tucson...

I will post more news as I receive it...

Mark,
If you need some more money, I got some..............
As it looks now we will be needing to raise more money to help out with the costs of regaining Marias hearing... The doctor said that there is a very good chance of her being able to hear and lead a normal life like any other child but it will take some work... Maria has nerves that aren't responding and there is a device that with over a period of time can help the nerves to gain response to the vibrations of sounds... this device would be needed for approx. one year, and this process is neccessary before she could even be fitted for hearing aids... approximate cost of this device 15,900. pesos... the cost of this child leading a normal life... priceless

Harold can we set something up through the AC or the 501c3 for donations???

If anyone feels like they would like to be a part of helping Maria please contact Bill or me...
