Rosie gets the story, all of it!

I think it's obvious that when I begin to feel besieged I get kinda testy.
As time goes by, you guys will figure out (probably because I'll tell you) who the people/businesses in town are that would muzzle me. Sometimes I'm shocked and hurt when someone I thought understood says, "ÿou're hurting Penasco with your articles", or worse yet, demand that I cease and desist. Then there are those who meet behind my back and strategize about how the hell to shut me up.
While my feathers do get ruffled, I am not physically at risk. If you want to know who the good guys are, check out my advertisers. If you want to thank them for supporting me, please visit their establishments.
And if you want to know who the real good guys are...look in the mirror.

I think we all get super protective when the one person we know with the biggest pair, who CAN'T be muzzled has something like this happen! We just all pretty much imagined the type of conversation that would have to take place and we're ready to ride to your rescue just like you do us! We were going to single-handedly take down those businesses, and RUN their butts out of town and impeach selfish officials, that sort of thing. I hope you know that from us regulars, that is what was going on. But, hey, that's just us.

I'm glad someone kept their sense of humor! YOU!

Well good to hear you haven't been castrated, literally or figuratively! I'm satisfied with your explanation although I disagree with the decision to remove the article entirely at this time. I assumed that articles on RPNewsonline were just rotated down as new ones were added, so to remove it completely frankly smelled fishy. Your website is not very widely known, and I have never seen a reference to it other than at this forum.

No problem was ever solved by hiding the truth, and your website only benefits PP by providing that truth. These 'cease and desist-ers' are shortsighted and misguided in thinking that its better to fool the timid into visiting PP. Those are the last people they should want to attract for even a small incident, such as the normal occurrance of seeing a Federale checkpoint, can scare them into telling all their friends how dangerous it was.

If PP tourism promoters were smart, they would discourage the whole Spring Break festivites even at the short term cost, because that mostly brings 1 or 2 timer college students who perpetuate the opinion of how crazy and lawless Mexico can be. Just one more reason why PP will probably never rise to the level of a world class travel destination.

I was wondering if you are in PP fulltime or split U.S./Mexico. I'm not clear on what the laws are regarding a free press in Mexico. While I respect and admire the Mike Lacey and Jim Larkin type of journalist, I would understand balancing your desire not to be thrown into a cell and left to rot without our protections and due process as we enjoy here. I share a similar burden standing up to my company as a representative for the Teamsters Union, and I never shy away from my responsibilites regardless of the personal cost. You just have to ask yourself if you can live with your decisions, and it sounds like you have already answered that question.

I have found when soliciting emails that it helps to provide a template for what you are trying to convey. Some will just copy and sign it, some will add to it, others will take your theme and expand upon it.

You are right on in your assessment of anonymous emailers. Only cowards hide behind fake emails and PM's. Either take a stand, right or wrong, or STFU.

Sub, Rocky Point News Online is a fairly new publication, but with widespread respect and viewership among RP regulars and especially on this forum. Many of us know Rosie personally and have been witnesses to (figuratively, not literally) her "pair." Rosie, where did the misinformation that you were bullied in to taking the story down come from?

Well it certainly doesn't have to do much to surpass the bar set by the Rocky Point Times now does it?

I think that taking the article down was a smart move for Rosie's well being. If anyone thinks that people won't get hurt over loss of money in mexico,
they are better off not crossing the border at all......

You guys crack me up. Here it is 3am and I decided to swing on in here to answer RPJoe’s pm. It never occurred to me that there would be such a flurry of activity over the article being unavailable. Geez... It was up for a long time, after all. Good work, Sub. Now let me address a few of the questions raised:

1. I HAVE a pair, thank you.

2. No one's business interests rank higher than your right to know about things that affect you, and certainly nothing is more important than your safety and that of other visitors to RP.

3. As Kenny said, I did get pressured. It wasn't the first time, it won't be the last. The biggest letdown this time was the speed with which my own readers turned on me. My integrity has been called into question. I have been accused of being a sellout. And the guy whose story we told has also been the victim of slander. And this was from people on the “we want to know” side of the fence.

4. No one "pulled the plug" on the article or forced me to take it down. I made the decision and told myself it was okay, because I'd had it up for two stinkin’ weeks.

5. The first week it was up, I felt it was informative, timely and relevant. After that, the tone of the emails I was getting changed and I started to notice that the negativity was being exploited by those who want to hammer home their own agendas and harm the city I live in or a young family man who was victimized.

6. A lot has happened in the last two weeks. Meetings with mayors (both Sonoyta and Penasco) and local business people (believe it or not, I actually have the support and friendship of many) brought a good plan of action for keeping people safer when they come down. Plans for Spring Break and other events are in full swing. Kenny said I walk a fine line. I'd like to think I do it well. Sometimes, I have to measure my actions and determine when something I'm doing is becoming counter-productive. I'm glad I published the article. I would do it again. I think it was time to bring it down and write about what has been done since. It will be archived and accessible, but I needed a break from all the emails. I didn't realize removing it would kick up such a ****storm. Seriously, I figured you all had read it in the first few days. Can I help it if you read too slowly?

7. Mentiras and Jeeper, please don't call for a boycott on the businesses you think pressured me! That made me laugh out loud (lovingly, of course, because I think you gals are great), the biggest complainers this time have been condo owners (yes, Jerry...the coopers).

8. If you guys want to help me convince the RP establishment that giving non-Spanish-speakers information is not a bad thing, then please send me emails to that effect. I’ll publish them and pass along to the mayor and his peeps. Maybe if we get lots and lots of them, they will catch on.

Message: Please tell us why the article has been removed regarding the carjacking. As of now the integrity of this publication is in question. I hope no one's safety has been compromised and that an update will follow regarding the removal of the article.

Let me say that your integrity is in question if you hide behind an alias. I don’t. I hate heavy-handedness. Couldn’t you have asked nicely if I’m okay? I take enough crap in an effort to bring you information, I don’t need more.
Okay, the witness's account was published "for two stinkin weeks", now it's not. Rosie's feathers don't get russeled easily, and she does a good job at walking the fine line of journalistic discretion. Pardon me, but who TF cares. I'm willing to bet the couple who had their car jacked, or family that was shot at didn't shake it off in two weeks.

No offense Rosie, but how could you possiibly not be suprised by the "flurry of activity", especially with this subject. Hopefully these ten pages should provide a hint. What's puzzling me is where's the follow up. The suspect was identified in a photo line up, have they caught him, has anyone followed up with Mr. D regarding the lead? What has happened with this story. Good or bad it'd be nice to read some update or closure to this.

I think we all can appreciate the effort it took to put this story out there on the editors part. At the same time, if someone is going to have a respected news and informational website, then that is also part of the job description. So thank you for putting this story out there. It does help with those traveling to and from PP and the planning and precautions that would be wise to take.

The problem I have with taking it down relates to #6 in the editors reply "Seriously, I figured you all had read it in the first few days. Can I help it if you read too slowly?" While you said that you are not in physical harm or worried about business pressure, why take it down then? There has got to be another explanation besides not wanting to receive emails. Just delete them if you do not want to read or reply to them. "Reading to slowly" is a weak and almost patronizing response.

#4
was also pretty weak, "I made the decision and told myself it was okay, because I'd had it up for two stinkin’ weeks." For something so important, this story should stay up. Also, stating that you wanted to focus on the solution would provide no real reference or correlation to new readers if the original story, in its entirety, is not available.

I found this article from way back in '09, http://www.rockypointnewsonline.com/....html?start=10 , which is still up. For whatever reason, the editor was not worried about this article being read TOO SLOWLY. I would think that a story on car jacking between Sonoita and PP would be more important to keep around than the announcement of Lily Vega's new "Sex City" adjacent to the Super Ley .

I get the "heat" being received and that really is unfortunate. But like the good cook, the respected newsperson has to handle the heat as well or get out of the kitchen. And, the title of the website is
rockypointNEWSonline.

if the story was reported in the Rocky Point Times it would have looked like this:

Dateline Sonoyta
In a boost to Americans traveling to Rocky Point for Christmas local Sonoyta business men are arranging a car exchange program near the old Bull Ring. Your car will be taken and detailed and you get a ride with the police chief back to your Rocky Point Pigeon Coup. The car will be returned with some Marijuana packaging material and bullets on the floor boards for your trip back to the border. Hey while in Mexico don't forget it's not to late to purchase one of those Playa Azul condos we've been slinging. Now is a good time to buy!

There are more than a few regulars on this forum that are glad it was taken out, and cringe each time there is a reply of any kind on this thread, or the other. Who might they be? Think about it, but don't look for their name's on this thread..it won't be there.

Jerry I'm surprise you would slander such a good publication and type such inaccuracies! The article would read: "Now is a GREAT time to buy!"

Actually Sub, if you were interested in buying a condo....er...pigeoncoop (IF:stir:), now is the time to buy...people are giving them away.....I heard of one Princessa 2 bedroom, ground floor, by the pool, having been sold for about $150K....I believe that's less than what it went for back when the Princessa was built, and everybody went bonkers with the prices!!!

Just think of all those "used to be" wealthy folks who bought several "for investment" now having to carry $350-600 in monthly maintenance fees, plus electricity...you know, the ones who thought they could cover their mortgage payments with rentals!!!

Speaking of the good old "pigeoncoop", it's a new year, and some of us have been talking about seeing about getting our old friend HAPPY back on the form. What say Tyler? He can't be any more negative than that post by rplarry, *****ing at Rosie.

Kenny, you are the consummate "blind defender". If you don't care for the person posting, you'll attack that person. If you are defending someone who you are fond of who is receiving a critique, you'll attack the person who was critical. In this case, I am just lucky to be both.

Curious though, what was so negative about the truthful comments I posted? I would guess that most people, including "Bob Oso", feel the way I do about this serious topic (and you didn't slam him for being negative) . Seriously, where was I being negative versus pointing out a concern that many on this site have expressed to have transparent, accurate and available information, and not having bold retractions of real life incidents like being car jacked and accosted just trying to drive 60 miles from the border to Rocky Point? If this is not happening, then let's see some stories to refute the recent events and provide some peace of mind. Retracting a story after ONLY 2 WEEKS by telling readers that they read too slow or that it had been "on for two stinkin' weeks" and that is the decision for removal, really hurts credibility.

If rockypointnewsonline is just there provide advertisement, then great. But, I think the editor is trying to run a legitimate news and informational site with all the good, bad and ugly. At least that is what we have been thought to believe.

Is there anyone else who feels this way or is Kenny correct that I was just being negative?

Larry you need to really really work on being so darn negative.I will pray for you.
This incident hasn't gotten legs because there was no blood. The narcos that run the plaza have huge sums of money sunk in Pigeon Coop world. They will not let this get out of hand.Trust the free narket to solve this problem.

Well you got that part right.

So now let me see if I got this right. You've just been hanging around looking for a opportunity to what, "have transparent, accurate and available information" and "some peace of mind"?
It happened, and anyone who thinks it didn't is foolish, or is just not paying attention. Like Terry noted though, the account of two cars stoled in PP prior to this, and from these same people is a long long shot, and should raise a eyebrow. What are the odds of that? One the other hand, I heard about what happened to the first couple that turned around and got away a day after it happened from a friend that lives in PP. Their is no question what so ever that that was a straight up account, and first hand. That basically was the same story that Stuart posted at the beginning of the first thread (car jacking), and when I jumped in with part of what I knew... You were given the make and color of the car that tried to stop the first people, it was the same Ford that got the second car to stop. Both parties in question saw each other at the police station in Sonoita, that's a fact. There was even a press conferance, if you will, about it.. Must be some kind of conspiracy going on here, and Rosie is part of it, and that's why you are not getting someone to hold your hand. But wait, as Roberto said,"You don't get minute by minute reporting on a car jacking in the US, Vehicle color and type, license plate, name of registered owner of that plate, direction they were driving in, direction they went, etc. etc. etc" The fact's look more like these guy's were using drugs, not selling them, or getting ready to get some. How do you defend agaist a couple of wing nut's like those "two" no matter where you are at?.
OK, now for that peace of mind you are looking for..Look within Larry, either you got it, or you don't. LOL... Look, we all knew something was going to happen someday, didn't we? What did you do with that knowledge then Larry, and what are you going to do now, except *****? The positive thing about all this is that even though we all knew something was going to happen, when it did, this time no one was hurt. What you all do differently now, even though thinking people knew something was going to happen eventually, and something will again, is up to the individual. For myself, I'm saving for a pigeon coup, I'm tired of sleeping under trailers.

Wait a minute, is it just me, or are you being condescending? If so, you'll find that sometimes they (my feathers) get "russeled" easier than expected.

Considering the seriousness of the topic, I was not surprised by the strong reactions to reports of the crime...not at all. What I referred to as a flurry of activity, was that which I found on this site as a result of the article being taken down. People worried about my safety, thinking I sold out, (not everything was posted here, online...some was via email), etc., etc.

Nothing has changed. Same old RPNO and same old Rosie. Someone on here said the site is little-known. Apparently it's more widely read than even I realized. As for the follow-up, it's coming...geez, maybe if you snap your fingers it will arrive faster. If that doesn't work...hold your breath. If you don't have it by tomorrow, I'll give you a free one-year subscription, how's that?
