    Fall Grouper Tournament

Stu - I was thinking the same about entering my boat. We would be better off fishing together on your boat. It is a lot bigger than mine.

    Tropical Depression Nine-E

There looks to be a chance for severe weather in Penasco on Sunday/Monday. Buoyweather is showing 34 knot wind gusts and 12' peak wave heights for midnight on Sunday. Better skip the sunset cruise! :-o Tropical Depression NINE-E

    Fall Grouper Tournament

I plan to be in Penasco that weekend and will probably fish the grouper tournament. I've only fished for grouper once before in October and had very good luck. Does anyone else plan on fishing either tournament?

    Blowing Yet Again (still?)

Damn sea lions are a nuisance. I can't tell you how many times I've spent an hour making bait and another hour getting anchored up in the dropoff to have sea lions come, strip all if our rigs, and clean out the bait well in no time. I've tried relocating miles away, but they keep finding us...

did all the fishermen blow away in the wind?

It's partially my wife's fault. She hates to stay on shore and says "it's always rough so we might as well get used to it". I don't mind fishing rough seas when anchored. The real trick is getting anchored on a good spot though. Can't wait to get out again on 8/17 and 8/31. The fishing is...

    Fishing off the Mirador Beach

Most of the time when you see a group of pangas fishing close together they are gathering shellfish using snuba, air compressors with hoses to allow divers to scour the bottom. We saw huge loads of conch coming in earlier this summer. My guess is they end up in china. But am not sure.

did all the fishermen blow away in the wind?

Tina and I took the boat out on Saturday. It was a bit bumpy, but the breeze and overcast skies kept it comfortable. We made bait in 58 feet of water in front of the Reef bar. We caught a big variety on sabikis. Lots of sierra mackerel, spotted bay bass, a variety of grunts, greenback...

That is a good spot. I've caught 5 or 6 leopard grouper and 1 gulf grouper there trolling deep divers in 25' of water. This one was 20 pounds.

Fishing Report for March 16 to 20

I love eating fish and have it almost every day for lunch or dinner. We enjoyed the grilled mako with either teriyaki glaze or pineapple habanero salsa. It was a first for all 3 of us. It reminded me of swordfish. I prefer grouper, but always wanted to try mako. I killed and ate the first...

Fishing Report for March 16 to 20

We encountered mako sharks near the boat on 3 of the 5 days we fished at 3 different spots at 23 to 52 miles out. We were not chumming or targeting sharks, just catching other fish that the sharks thought were an easy lunch. You can't avoid them sometimes and I hope to release the next one we...

Fishing Report for March 16 to 20

Mexico Joe - I know what you mean. I bought my boat in 2004 and have fished countless hours fishing the Sea of Cortez. This is the first shark we've ever caught and the only fish we caught the whole day on Sunday. Much respect to all who catch and release sharks.

Good friends Bill Biebesheimer from MN and Dave Karle from PA joined me for 5 days of fishing last week on my 23' Wellcraft "Murphy Girl". We caught a 100 pound black sea bass, 50 pound mako shark, 15 white sea bass to 35 pounds, 2 yellowtail, 8 leopard grouper, 2 pintos, and a bunch of gold...

Dorado are out there, go get 'em!

Hi Stu - We caught two of them on Sabikis at the Caballo in June. They were blue on top and thick-bodied. Some type of jack, but I didn't think they were Jack Crevalle. Looked more like a Green Jack to me.

I agree with Adolfo about Saturday, I'm hoping the seas will settle down in the afternoon. I'm a bit more optimistic about Sunday.

    Fishing This Weekend May 26-27

I'm planning to take my boat out fishing this Sat and/or Sun and don't have anyone going with me yet. If you will be down this weekend and are interested in getting out, let me know. No guarantees, but I thought I'd put out the invite and see how it plays out. The fishing has been very good...
