Those are the same kind we saw off Playa Encanto a couple weeks ago. A local panga went down just off the beach and was catching them by the hundreds with big hand nets.

Appears to be a cannonball jellyfish. Forgot to say, a panga came along and they were harvesting hundreds of them with nets. Apparently they are processed and shipped to Asia as a delicacy.

We saw hundreds of these this week off Encanto and assumed they were jelly fish. But they were hard to the touch and I can't find any info online. Any one know what they were?

Yup, that's exactly the video I used. PVC man! My camera's a Tachyon, but I think the GO PRO's are as good or better.

Sounds promising, we'll be down on Encanto tomorrow and all next week. I have a new camera for the kayak so will try to catch something to photograph.

It would be fine, certainly better than nothing. I used to paddle all over and catch fish with an inflatable, esp. corvina right off shore. That little yak would be a lot better than an inflatable, especially in wind. Maybe get an inflatable seat pad to sit on - that plastic looks awfully firm.

I'm sure they could, especially sierra, but I've caught tons (well, pounds) of ocean fish there and never had one bite thru the line. Always used 12 lb. mono/fluoro hybrid.

Audsley, what do you use to catch Corvina that doesn't also catch tons of sand bass? I always just have to deal with pulling those off every other cast.

I had no idea the road gets soft there. I thought the panga traffic would keep it packed. That's good to know.

No idea, but looks like fun. I don't think I've ever caught any of those from a kayak.

I mostly use the Rebel Fast-Trac, but any crankbait that runs at the right depth seems to work. A suspending Rapala jerkbait worked very well. I watched a bunch of fish follow it, then I stopped the retrieve and right when that lure stopped, the biggest corvina grabbed it. I usually use blue...

I'll be down there at Encanto on June. Saw a guy with a little pontoon boat who was fishing for grouper on the reefs. Might have to take the 'yak out and try to find them. What's that, some kind of crankbait?
